Position: Occupational Therapist

ages: $41.32-$51.40 per hour

Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Current registration with provincial registration association (ACOT, COTBC)
- Maintain professional requirements and participate in continuing competence activities
Work Experience
- Experience working with geriatrics and persons with long term disability
- AADL authorizer preferred
- Leadership experience preferred

- Computer skills
- Valid drivers license
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with conflict in a diplomatic and professional manner
- Adept at written and oral communication with internal and external customers

Span of Authority Includes
- Utilizing the Occupational Therapy professional standards of practice in accordance to the GSS care standards
- Identifying and responding to safety issues with immediate action
- Participating in the completion of managed risk agreements
- Advocating for clients/residents needs and concerns
- Providing feedback and coaching to staff
- Supervising and participating in evaluation of staff practice
- Maintaining resources and supplies for the department including making recommendations for equipment/supplies for the facility/GSS
Span of Authority Excludes
- Ordering capital equipment
- Participating in non-approved research projects
- Ordering and using non approved products/services
- Arranging for trial of large equipment without involvement from purchasing department
- Operating outside collective agreements or terms of agreements, policies, procedures and legislation

Special Role Circumstances
- Valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle may be required
- Willingness to participate in committees, research projects, data collection and reporting
- Identifying ethical dilemmas and participating in balanced decision making
- Orientating new staff and preceptoring students when required
- Travel as the demand requires

Internal Influence
- Report to Client Services Manager
- Act as an ambassador and role model of the Values, Vision and Mission of GSS
- Foster and maintain effective relationships simultaneously with peers, managers, staff, clients, families, physicians and volunteers
- Work in supportive partnership with other GSS employees
External Influence
- Represent GSS and their site location by working cooperatively with all GSS staff and community partners; including: contract services, educational institutions, diverse faith based groups and others
- Provide a high level of all the components of OT services specific to the program including but not limited to: ADL assessment, seating and mobility, skin integrity, dysphagia, equipment recommendations and ordering, splinting, fall prevention, safety, treatment and education groups
- Complete assessments of clients/residents and develop care and treatment plans using GSS documents and technology
- Communicate changes in clients/residents condition and care in a timely manner to appropriate decision makers and GSS team
- Reassess, evaluate and modify interventions as required
- Document in a timely and concise manner consistent with legal requirements
- Communicate with team members to resolve issues, communicate changes and solicit feedback
- Exhibit strong leadership skills and strive diligently to resolve conflict situations with family and staff in a positive, cooperative manner using good judgment and taking decisive action when appropriate, reporting family concerns immediately
- Report and address all safety hazards in a timely manner including participating in effective management of staff injury and disability
- Supervise and support staff, giving immediate feedback and regular coaching to improve performance
- Monitor the activities of rehab aides/assistants and provides regular feedback
- Work as an advocate negotiating for resident care and service providers
- Consult with internal interdisciplinary team members and committees
- Participate in admission/discharge process and care conferences
- Ensure supplies and equipment are used in a cost effective manner
- Participate in the measurement and improvement of site/program performance through indicators and quality improvement plans
- Provide feedback and suggestions on the development and revision of policies
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, keeping the work environment consistently tidy
- Adhere to all infection control practices and procedures
- Pursues continual learning by participating in educational opportunities, in-services and/or training programs
- Ensure an environment and resources which nurture spirituality
- Maintain confidentiality on issues related to residents, employee matters and GSS information
