JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented professional to join our team in the role of Instructional Designer/Senior Training Advisor.

Reporting to the Section Manager of Training Technology, Planning & Design, this pivotal role encompasses the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) process in creating high-quality, engaging, and effective learning experiences for our Renewable Generation (RG) employees. Key responsibilities include collaborating with line management, employees, subject matter experts, and trainers to conduct comprehensive needs analyses and identify training gaps. The role also involves formulating strategic recommendations for management and designing and developing an innovative training curriculum. Further duties include observing program implementation and evaluating effectiveness to ensure alignment with learning objectives. This role will be assigned learning projects in various areas, including health & safety, skilled trades, technical skills, dam safety, water management, and operations.

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of instructional design principles for adult learners, a passion for creating experiential course content and leveraging technology in education, and the ability to independently manage projects from conception through evaluation. Projects will vary from traditional classroom settings to virtual instructor-led sessions, self-directed eLearning modules, and peer-to-peer learning experiences. Despite the hands-on nature required by many of our training initiatives, we're on the hunt for an innovator who can artfully weave in self-directed and virtual learning opportunities wherever they fit. An independent, self-starter attitude is essential, with the capability to execute projects with minimal supervision. The role requires virtual networking skills, underscoring the importance of building a professional network across a wide geographic area to empower our learners in the RG fleet. Note: This position is focused on the instructional design process and does not include direct training delivery. Air and road travel to various locations across Ontario is required approximately 25% of the time.
