THE ROLE
The Terminal Manager is the primary point of contact for Drivers to assist in solving problems and answering questions in a timely and effective manner while also facilitating the safe and professional performance of their work. The Terminal Manager is responsible for the operational as well as financial performance of their terminal(s) and collaborates with the Area Manager to assist with the development of the terminal budget so that they have a full understanding of expected deliverables. This position also manages local customer relationships and any issues that may affect profitability.
This role reports to an Area Manager and interacts with Company Drivers, Independent Contractors, Service Centers, management, Safety, Human Resources, and local customers

RESPONSIBILITIES
SAFETY:
- Collaborate with the Safety Trainer to identify, review and address safety events;
- Lead safety meetings;
- Reviewing in-cab camera events with the Safety Trainers for potential coaching or remediation;
- Provide clarity on safety expectations and procedures and work with the Safety department to provide coaching, training and remediation as necessary;
- Final escalation point for Safety violations;
- Review safety reports and analytical data and address any issues or trends;
- Ensure the terminal has the appropriate safety supplies;
- Ensure all equipment meets regularity and corporate compliance;
- Promote a proactive safety culture within the terminal
- Ensure the terminal is organized, clean and free of safety hazards;
DRIVERS:
- Primary point of contact for responding to and creating solutions for driver complaints, concerns, and questions;
- Coach and mentor Drivers with an emphasis on open communication;
- Set measurable goals with Drivers and maintain accountability and performance manage as needed;
- Work with Recruiting and Sales departments to ensure proper driver levels based on revenue projections, new business, and projected turnover;
- Work collaboratively with the Service Centers to ensure efficient and fair dispatching of eligible Drivers based on availability;
- Support driver retention, engagement and satisfaction and working with Human Resources on corresponding initiatives;
- Understand and uphold Independent Contractors' contracts and understand and apply local collective bargaining agreements, where applicable
- Working collaboratively across the Company to understand company policies & procedures and ensure compliance;
- Assisting with the onboarding of new Drivers, their associated paperwork and any necessary follow-ups.
RESOURCE UTILIZATION
- Monitor and control asset utilization;
- Determine driver utilization expectations, parameters and controls and communicate them to services centres so that issues and/or trends are identified and appropriate levels are determined for profitability;
- Perform fleet planning projections and ensure the terminal has the correct amount of assets to properly handle business opportunities;
- Works in conjunction with service centres to identify equipment due for scheduled maintenance or equipment requiring repair and coordinate the servicing of equipment with shop personnel;
- Works to ensure equipment is scheduled with shop and washrack to expediate fleet readiness and fleet planning;
- Ensure all tags, license, stickers and permits are up to date on all equipment.
CUSTOMERS
- Accountable for all customer issues;
- Initiate engagement with local customers and respond to questions or concerns either through direct response or obtaining information from the relevant department and responding accordingly;
- Perform customer visits as requested or as necessary;
- Grow local customer base;
- Provide input on industry and local market trends to maintain competitive driver compensation.
FINANCIAL
- Support Area Manager in the development of the budget for the terminal;
- Responsible for the financial performance of the terminal in relation to the budget to ensure profitability goals are being met or exceeded;
- Review and respond accordingly to key performance indicators and profitability metrics to ensure profitability goals are being met or exceeded on a consistent basis;
- Perform customer profitability review and review findings with the Area Manager;
- Review terminal costs and issue Purchase Orders;
- Set expectations and standards for all cost control metrics associated with the terminal.
REQUIREMENTS
- 5-7 years of related experience and/or training;
- Minimum 2 years of management experience preferred;
- Experience working with a variety of transportation systems and software preferred;
- Experience with computers, good keyboarding skills, and familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Office Suite;
- Experience in bulk and/or hazardous commodities preferred;
- Mandatory High School Diploma, Bachelor's degree preferred.
