Job Summary
The Director, Architecture role is essential to the success of technology at Porter. They maintain and evangelise the architecture vision that uses Porter’s business vision as a foundation and ensures that technology is continually aligned and optimised for the company’s success. They define and maintain an enterprise architecture that is tailored to Porter’s business objectives, drivers, goals, and principles. The Director, Architecture will lead a team of architects that ensure that all technology systems and solutions satisfy the business needs and requirements, align to the target architecture, and emphasise simplicity, stability and continuous improvement. The Director, Architecture and their team establish and maintain frameworks and processes that ensure that developed solutions are simple, robust, follow best practices and conform to the defined architectures through full-lifecycle support and governance, fostering consistency through the effective use of reference architectures, standards, and reusable patterns.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the practice areas for Business, Application, Integration, Information, Technology and Security Architecture
- Evangelise the practice of architecture at Porter and foster an understanding of how architecture helps the organisation make optimal use of technology to achieve its goals
- Identify and analyze business drivers to contribute to - and develop - enterprise architecture requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders, ensuring an understanding of their needs, goals and drivers
- Ensure, through the use of modeling, documentation and education, that the architecture is accurately and directly linked to business models and processes
- Work with business leaders to create architectures that align business and data needs with Target State Architecture
- Own the architecture of the organisation, ensuring that solutions are aligned to the target enterprise architecture, reduce technical debt, and foster the continuous improvement of Porter’s technology ecosystem
- Prepare and deliver briefings for IT and Business leadership on the health of their architecture portfolio, the roadmap, trends in technology
- Ensure architecture oversight and governance is applied across all phases of the solution lifecycle
- Manage the creation, management and application of architecture and technology standards
- Lead the definition and development of architecture and technology best practices
- Ensure that architectural solutions have end-to-end integrity, with implications well understood and risks mitigated
- Translate high-level concepts and requirements into intuitive, highly functional, and visually impactful digital products across existing and emerging technology platforms
- Play a key role in new initiatives by participating in stakeholder meetings to help define product requirements that best achieves business goals
- Participate and support review of RFIs, RFPs and RFQs, to architect and propose end-to-end infrastructure and platform engineered solutions
- Actively participates in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understands and promotes the Company’s Safety Policy

Qualifications
Experience - 15+ years operating in a formal architecture role
- 8+ years of management of technology teams
- Experience with establishing and maintaining architectural governance
- Experience developing and/or maintaining an enterprise reference architecture and standards
- Experienced in multiple software delivery methodologies (waterfall, Agile & continuous delivery)
- Experience providing direction and management of an enterprise technology landscape, including continuous improvement and alignment to current and evolving best practices
- Experience and understanding of development in languages such as .NET, J2EE/Java, SQL, Perl, etc.
- Experience with integration platforms and architectures including micro services, message-driven patterns, event-based architectures, SaaS integrations, etc.
- Experience with ETL/ELT platforms and architecture
- Experience with web middleware such a application and portal servers
- Experience with cloud infrastructure architecture, IaaS and PaaS models
- Experience with Enterprise Data Architecture, data modeling, data management
- Experience with security architecture and architecture patterns
Education - Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Software Architecture or related degree is required
- Education in Business Administration is an asset
- Architecture and technology certifications such as TOGAF, ITIL, CISSP are beneficial
