Safety Coordinator

Our client operating across Western Canada supports multiple energy sectors commercial real estate forestry municipalities and utilities. Focuses include preconstruction construction postconstruction requirements and managing client’s assets from inception through to their retirement and reclamation.
Our client is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator with experience working in oilfield environmental or industrial services who will be responsible for developing implementing and maintaining health and safety programs to ensure compliance with provincial safety regulations and exceeding best practices in the industry. This role involves collaboration with management employees and regulatory agencies to identify and mitigate workplace hazards conduct safety training and investigate incidents.
Role and Responsibilities: Duties include but are not limited to:
Regulatory Compliance
- Work with the various departments to stay compliant and current in the safetymandated processes
- Ensure workplace safety standard compliance and report in a timely and accurate manner to department managers
- Stay up to date with safety standards for the provinces of BC and Alberta
- Investigate understand and communicate compliance regulations for departments based on client needs and project deliverables
- Develop Health and Safety strategy and lead operational H&S management systems and activities to comply with regulations
- Maintain and develop safe work procedures and internal health & safety policies
- Owner of Joint Health and Safety Committee and ensure all members have training.
Professional & Technical Advice
- Provide recommendations for program policy process or procedure changes that promote a strong safety culture and safer workplace
- Assist with incident investigations and/or incidents of injury or property damage and ensure compliance with applicable provincial OHS legislation and COR
Operational Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with the Contract Management Program
- Incident Reporting and Investigations
- COR audit preparation and corrective actions
- Summarizing weekly stats to the Executive Leadership Team
- Fireside Chat updates
- Facilitating monthly safety meetings
- Site visits and inspections completed and documented
Qualifications and skills:
- Postsecondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline
- A CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) CRST (Canadian Registered Safety Technician) or NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) designation is desirable.
- 2 to 5 years of Occupational Health & Safety experience developing and promoting safety programs/culture within a company
- Expert understanding of the OH&S regulations for the provinces of BC and Alberta
- Working knowledge of compliance processes including ISN Comply Works and Avetta
- Experience working within the oil and gas industry would be considered an asset.
- Effective communication skills written and verbal and the ability to exercise sound judgment
- Ability and willingness to travel from time to time when required (i.e. site visits and inspections corporate presentations)
