Job description
The Ausenco Sustainability team is looking for a junior engineer, environmental scientist, or environmental technologist who is excited to build a solid foundation in environmental field work; learning about monitoring for water quality and quantity, fish, air quality, wildlife, vegetation, and soils. We are looking for a highly motivated individual based in the Yukon, with excellent technical and interpersonal skills, to work with our talented team in delivering outstanding service to our clients in the Yukon. Your primary focus will be to assist Project Managers, senior scientists, and engineers on environmental-related projects.
About the opportunity:
In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn a wide variety of field skills and the environmental consulting business including analysis and interpretation of field data and development of mitigation measures.
Working closely with Project Managers and senior field staff you will perform activities such as:
- Collection of field measured data for air quality, water quality, hydrology, terrestrial mapping, and fish and wildlife habitat.
- Collection of samples for fish tissue, wildlife DNA, water quality, air quality, soils, and vegetation.
- Provision of field monitoring for wildlife e.g., bird surveys, caribou behaviour and movement, bat migration and nesting.
- Compiling, processing, and verifying field-collected and analytical data.
- Developing or supporting environmental reporting, including researching, gathering data, and drafting/editing text developed by technical disciplines.
- Reviewing and providing input to client invoices, including expenses, sub-contractor and supplier invoices, and equipment rental.
- Supporting communication between clients, environmental teams, engineering teams, and regulatory agencies.
- Timely and accurate reporting of field activities (daily, monthly, and incidents).
Qualifications
About you:
- Bachelor of Science in environmental science, biology/ecology or engineering or a Technical Diploma in environmental technology
- 1-3 years industry experience preferably within the environmental sector. New graduates also considered
- Willingness to work outside in adverse weather conditions for potentially extended periods at a time
- Ability to be registered as a Professional (E.I.T., G.I.T., A.I.T., B.I.T.) is preferable
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent organizational abilities and detailed oriented
- Comfortable working with small tools or environmental equipment (e.g., water quality meters, air monitoring equipment, etc.)
- Proficient with computers
