About the Position :
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for providing leadership and coordination of the Company’s financial reporting, budgeting and planning while ensuring that company procedures adhere to generally accepted accounting principles. They will work closely with members of the senior management team to oversee and manage the daily operations of the finance department.

Duties and Responsibilities :
- Assist the CFO and Operational Vice President with ongoing maintenance of key business indicators ensuring that management has access to the information needed to make business decisions.
- Assess the effectiveness of existing systems, processes and internal controls within the accounting/finance function and provide recommendations for improvements to senior management.
- Implement new systems to eliminate manual processes, create efficiency and enhance reporting capabilities.
- Develop and monitor consistent application of accounting policies, and the establishment and maintenance of appropriate internal checks and controls to ensure the accuracy of information and the existence of appropriate safeguards to protect the company’s assets
- Develop and support the CFO in broad financial policies and long-range plans to support the overall growth objectives and philosophy of the company.
- Assist the CFO to develop creative and effective financing strategies to support capital requirements for potential future operational development.
- Support the development of short and long-term objective plans for the Accounting and Finance function as well as the overall finance plan for the Company.
- Ensure the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets that reflect the objectives, plans and priorities established in the strategic plan.
- Maintain treasury management processes that optimize cash management procedures, including future cashflow projections.
- Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of the business units.
- Prepare, provide and present consolidated periodic financial reporting packages (income statement) to senior management and the Board of Directors
- Calculate variances from budget and provide financial analysis as needed.
- Lead new ERP initiatives and reporting within the finance and accounting team including PowerBI.
- Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions for multiple entities and divisions.
- Identify key strategic issues as they arise and communicate those to executive.
- Oversee regulatory reporting and compliance with GST, Corporate income tax.
- Ensure clear definition of responsibility for each employee and participates in employee performance reviews.
- Maintain strong service orientation with open and effective two-way communication throughout the company.
- Evaluation of expansion opportunities and analysis of business needs and impacts to current operations
- Provide leadership/mentorship to accounting staff and maintains appropriate skilled staff based on needs of the organization.
Qualifications: - Five (5) or more years of experience as a Controller or in a similar position is required; experience in a construction industry is an asset
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with comprehensive understanding of accounting principles
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, with superior knowledge of Excel is required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365
- Knowledge of CaseWare is an asset
- Effective leadership and communication skills will be needed to succeed in this role.
