Job description
We are Pomerleau. And you could be too.
At Pomerleau, we fully understand that our mission is not only to create infrastructure or erect buildings, but to build communities. As a leader in the construction industry for nearly 60 years, we always aim to make a positive impact on the lives of the people we serve across Canada.
To do this, we do everything we can to listen to their needs, to never lose sight of the realities of tomorrow and to innovate in a more committed, more collaborative and more sustainable way. Together, this is how we redefine our practice - for the good of our profession and of future generations.
As a Preconstruction Manager working in the Building Operations team at Pomerleau Construction, you will support new and ongoing project growth and challenge industry standards with your trade-driven expertise and knowledge. Working on large-scale building and infrastructure projects – ranging from $1.5 million to upwards of $1 billion – you will work closely with our proposals team and various client groups to secure bids and ensure project success.
What YOU Will Do - Lead the preconstruction phase of our local projects, collaborating with project stakeholders to develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and value engineering analyses to optimize project scope and budget.
- Manage the bidding process, including soliciting bids from subcontractors and vendors, evaluating proposals, and negotiating contracts.
- Review bid documents, specifications, and drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients during the preconstruction phase, addressing inquiries, providing updates on project progress, and presenting cost-saving alternatives.
- Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to establish project goals, objectives, and design criteria.
- Supervise and mentor a team of estimators, providing guidance and support throughout the preconstruction process.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment focused on achieving excellence in preconstruction services.
- Identify and assess potential risks and opportunities associated with construction projects, developing strategies to mitigate risks and maximize project success.
- Conduct thorough risk analyses and feasibility studies to inform decision-making and project planning.
- Implement process improvements and innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and competitiveness in preconstruction services.
What YOU Will Bring - Bachelor's degree or College Diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in preconstruction management, or lead estimation role with a focus on building and infrastructure construction projects.
- A knack for working with construction estimating software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Analyzing and problem-solving is what you do best! Your attention to detail and accuracy is like no other.
- A passion for motivating and effectively leading a team where collaboration and mentorship are the keys to your success.
Additional Assets Include:
- Professional certifications such as Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) or Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Previous experience working on design-build, construction management at-risk (CMAR), or public-private partnership (P3) project delivery methods.
- Familiarity with sustainable construction practices and green building certifications.
- A fluency in both French and English (written and oral).
