Job description
Our client is a well-established distribution company with sales in Canada and the US. They are a mid-sized, multinational company looking for a VP Finance to oversee all operational and corporate accounting, budgeting, financial forecasting, cash management, financing, legal, risk management, tax and IT. New ownership in Sweden is providing world class expertise and expansion internationally. The parent company is publicly traded so experience in reporting to a public company parent would be a plus.
The VP Finance will report locally to the President and will have a dotted line to the Senior Finance person in Sweden. You will have a clear mandate to support the growth and profitability of the business. Part of the senior leadership team, you will provide strategic business advice and counsel, enhance systems and processes, planning, forecasting, reporting and analysis and commentary which in turn improves decision making, profitability and operations excellence.
Distribution industry experience is also highly preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Work effectively and collaboratively as part of the Senior Management team with the Senior Director Manufacturing and Engineering, Director of Sales, Director of Marketing, and Director of People and Culture – reporting to the President.
- Lead and inspire a cross-functional team of managers and individual professionals by providing them with coaching, direction and mentorship while ensuring a healthy working environment.
- Accountable for the hire, promotion, performance management, career planning and termination of the people reporting directly into that role.
- In collaboration with the Senior Management team and the President, drive the planning and orchestration of business objectives.
- Oversee the application of appropriate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls for accurate financial reporting and financial systems implementations, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Develop the financial well-being of the company by providing financial projections and accounting services and preparing growth plans.
- Direct and coordinate financial affairs according to financial principles and government regulations.
- Prepare, analyze, and monitor financial forecasts, financial statements, and budgets and make strategic recommendations to the President for presentation to the Board of Directors.
- Provide financial advice to the President and the Senior Management team helping in strategic business decisions that lead to the achievement of the long-term plan and ensure that they receive appropriate levels of reporting and financial analysis to guide their decision-making.
- Work with the Senior Management team and play a supporting role to ensure all the reports coming from the ERP system are standardized and in line with GAAP/IFRS principles as per parent requirements.
- Engage and liaise with External Auditors and oversee the Internal Audit process.
- Ensure accounting practice and regulation compliance as well as commercial regulations with US, Canadian and Australian laws, or any new countries we do business with.
- Develop and administer the company’s financial and accounting policies and develops long-range goals and objectives.
- Assures that the organization’s financial filings, reports, and other documentation comply with organization regulations and SEC and GAAP reporting guidelines.
- Keeps up-to-date with regulatory changes, advises management of changes, and adjusts policies and procedures to maintain compliance.
- Monitors financial performance and assesses the organization’s liabilities and investments for financial risk and determines investment strategies by considering cash and liquidity risks.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance and completed the CPA, or ACCA designation
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in Finance/Accounting role and 5 years in a Senior Leadership role.
- You have exceptional leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
- You have strong strategic and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make data-driven decisions.
- You have strong experience working as a business partner in delivering better decision support and enabling strategic initiatives which help to improve the organization’s financial performance.
- You have excellent analytical skills as well as strong business acumen.
- You possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
