The Opportunity:
The Global Senior Revenue Recognition Manager will be focused on providing a range of revenue recognition financial support to the sales force, corporate finance staff and corporate senior management teams. The position plays a key role that encompasses OpenText’s policies and compliance related to Software Revenue Recognition ASC 606. The incumbent will also interface with both the internal and external audit teams and works very closely with the Deal Desk and sales teams globally.
What You're Great At:
- Responsible for being an internal revenue recognition expert and resource available to finance and operational groups globally
- Ensure full compliance with ASC 606, US GAAP and internal policies and procedures relating to revenue recognition and reporting including providing advice to operational staff on potential revenue recognition issues throughout the sales cycle and reviewing finalized sales contracts and recommending appropriate accounting treatment
- Prepare audit paperwork (including written summaries for large license sales) and participate in the quarterly contract review of all license sales with external audit team
- Supervise Revenue Recognition staff
- Timely escalation of all unresolved revenue recognition issues
- Conduct training sessions for sales and finance relative to revenue recognition policies and procedures
- Update and keep current the OpenText Revenue Recognition policy
- Work closely and collaboratively with counterparts in the OpenText “Deal Desk” to ensure adherence to US GAAP revenue recognition rules
- Review VSOE studies
- Special projects and ad hoc reporting/analysis as required
- Participate in the detailed global license sales review process
- Assist with SOX compliance
What It Takes:
- Accounting related university degree and a CA/CMA/ US CPA designation
- Strong understanding of US GAAP Revenue Recognition rules preferred
- Knowledge or experience with new revenue recognition rules (Topic 606) preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills with a customer orientation
- 7 to 10 years working experience
- Exceptional written communication skills
- Software industry experience would be a definite asset
- Ability to interact well at senior management and executive levels
- Ability to assess business risk and suggest alternatives to sales managers
- Attention to detail and adherence to SOX processes essential
- Organized with an ability to balance multiple projects in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
