My client is a niche environmental consulting firm focused on the areas of regulatory affairs and permitting, Indigenous engagement and relationship building, water stewardship, closure and reclamation planning, compliance and environmental management, and project management. Their primary focus is on the mining and mineral exploration, and they lead permitting and regulatory affairs matters for many projects. They expect to double in size over the next two years and due to their continued success and growth and a very strong and successful brand name. They operate at the intersection of industry, communities, and government, playing a crucial role in defining successful pathways for project advancement. They often act as an "owner's representative," renowned for their ability to tackle strategic, complex problems and deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions.
My client is currently in search of a highly experienced
Senior Socio-Economic Practice Lead to provide support in delivering projects with a socio-economic and community-based focus within the Indigenous Engagement, Human Environment, and Community Well-Being Practice Area.
Remote / WFH / Hybrid: 100% Remote anywhere in Canada
Travel: Minimal
Salary: $120k - $150k+, plus health benefits, profit-sharing, annual performance bonus, signing bonus
Experience: - Leading the development of baseline socio-cultural and socio-economic studies, including research, analysis, survey development, interviews, and more.
- Conducting focus groups, key informant interviews, and community engagement to understand Indigenous interests and support the development of community-based indicators.
- Creating economic development strategies for Indigenous communities and communities affected by natural resource and infrastructure projects.
- Participating in program planning, assessments, evaluations, and Environmental Assessments.
- Conducting social, economic, and environmental trend analysis, qualitative and quantitative research.
- Assessing project impacts in relation to social, economic, and environmental considerations.
- Developing impact management programs, including mitigation, benefit enhancement, and monitoring.
- Staying updated on Canadian federal and provincial impact assessment legislation, practices, and stakeholder consultation best practices.
- Coordinating and developing high-quality written technical reports for regulatory and permit management assignments.
- Supporting the delivery of multiple projects within scope, budget, and schedule expectations, while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Assisting in the preparation of work plans, proposals, scopes, and cost estimates.
- Supporting the development and expansion of my clients Indigenous and Stakeholder Engagement, Human Environment, and Community Well-Being practice area beyond the mining industry.
- Participating in or supporting business development and marketing events and opportunities.
- Keeping informed about changes in Federal, Provincial, and Territorial regulations and best practices.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree with a background in social sciences such as cultural anthropology, sociology, social geography, socio-economics, or related (international affairs, indigenous affairs).
- Canadian regulatory laws and permitting requirements (International knowledge will be an asset).
- 15+ years progressive experience related to environmental assessments and permitting.
- Strong technical writing and attention-to-detail.
- Exposure to a range of environmental practice areas (ex. air quality, noise, surface and groundwater quality, vegetation, wildlife, fish and fish habitat, socioeconomics, archaeology).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills maintaining a professional demeanour with high standards and professional integrity.
- Team player who is collaborative, respectful, and supportive of team development and growth.
Additional skills considered an asset:
- Knowledge of archaeology and/or cultural heritage.
- Statistical analysis and data management experience.
- Experience developing Traditional Knowledge and Land Use Studies.
- Assessing and developing corporate social performance based on ESG metrics and developing social enhancement strategies, action plans, and annual reports.
- Experience conducting technical review of impact assessment and permitting applications; and
- Fluency in French, Spanish, or any Indigenous language.
