Our client is one of the world's largest and most diversified producers of steel products, servicing markets around the world. The client has partnered with Randstad Engineering to support them in the search for their new Steel Project Engineer.

Position: Steel Project Engineer - Automotive Customer Facing
Salary - $90K-$100K
Reports to - Engineering Manager

Responsibilities
Scope - Work as a project leader in support of value-added tubular automotive assemblies. This includes all phases of new programs, such as product design and development, process development, equipment/tool build and commissioning. This role will include other major projects within the facility and will also provide ongoing support to related processes in areas of productivity, quality and continuous improvement.


DUTIES:
Provide leadership to project teams, chair project meetings and coordinate activities between functional areas, as required (Sales, Engineering, Estimating, Quality, Production)
Manage multiple project schedules, as assigned. Ensure that all internal procedures, including those for C2P (AQP), Engineering change and design control are followed in accordance with TS16949, API or other relevant standards. This will include documenting the product and process development in a standardized format.
Provide regular progress reports to Management.
Coordinate tooling development and build.
Coordinate sample and prototype builds.
Develop testing and product validation procedures and methods.
Write specifications and procure equipment and gauges.
Conduct DOE activities and prepare technical reports.
Coordinate C2P (AQP) activities.
Provide technical support (prepare reports, design inputs and technical presentations) in support of customer requests.
Provide technical support to maintain product quality and maximum asset utilization on assigned processes.
Identify and implement process improvements.

Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of experience in a responsible project or product engineering position within the automotive, tubing or manufacturing industries.
Demonstrate strong project management and organizational skills.
Experience in product development activities and tools as used in the automotive industry.
Experience and knowledge in a variety of metalworking processes. Relevant examples include:
Stamped steel bracket product or tool design, or manufacture.
Weld assembly tool design or manufacture.
Machining of welded assemblies.
Familiarity or expertise in any of the following is an asset: tube forming, cold forming, industrial robotics, laser cutting systems, and induction heat treating.
Experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving industrial processes.
Basic knowledge of hydraulics and machine control.
Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
Working knowledge of the latest edition of TS 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001.

EDUCATION:
Must have completed a College or University level program in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
