Your Opportunity The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Care for, feed, handle, train, and maintain various birds of prey, their enclosures, and related equipment
- Deliver informative and engaging educational programs for organized groups and the public
- Assist with day-to-day operations and customer service including providing general information to visitors and promotion of park initiatives
- Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals.
- Other duties as assigned
Your Qualifications - Previous experience in the care and handling of birds of prey is an asset
- Experience in nature interpretation, teaching, or outdoor education
- Knowledge of natural history and wildlife
- Knowledge and application of operant conditioning training techniques
- Proven commitment to providing superior customer service
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Able to adapt to the daily challenges associated with a busy outdoor education centre
- Able to develop, foster, and sustain effective working relationships within the department and with other Conservation Halton staff
- Able to travel to a site not serviced by public transportation
- Able to offer flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and evenings
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
- Successful candidates are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS), to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (if over 18 years old). *Cost covered by Conservation Halton up to $30.00.
- A valid Ontario Drivers Licence, minimum Class “G”, with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract is required. *Abstract completed by Conservation Halton.
