Travel Requirement: A successful candidate will be required to travel to attend events/ conferences/ community gatherings/meetings within the Region of Waterloo, outside of working hours or during weekends, when needed.
Salary 2024: $84,441 - $99,342.

You Will:
- Provide related subject matter expertise to the development and implementation of various programs, initiatives, recruitment, retention, and learning and development programs for members;
- Collaborate with the Diversity and Inclusion Working Group to design and coordinate an appropriate diversity and inclusion strategy and corresponding initiatives based on identified needs, and manage relationships with internal subject-matter experts and external agencies as needed to ensure the delivery of appropriate diversity and inclusion outcomes;
- Partner with members to understand the immediate and ongoing diversity needs at all levels of the organization;
- Collaborate with Human Resources to provide a diversity and inclusion lens to the design and implementation of an organizational outreach strategy framework for attracting, engaging, and developing a diverse workforce and work closely with key stakeholders to evolve this strategy;
- Support the recruitment of diverse talent by assisting in the development of active talent pipelines for key roles utilizing a range of talent sourcing channels including social media platforms, learning initiatives (e.g. cooperative education programs), hiring events, partnerships and other strategic alliances;
- Proactively identify opportunities to increase members from under-represented groups at all levels of the organization;
- Engage work units and appropriate leadership within those units, to consult, develop, execute and evaluate diversity and inclusion plans and initiatives based on key performance indicators;
- Provide informed advice, support and recommendations related to employment equity, intercultural communication, diversity and inclusion to senior leadership and members;
- Foster inclusive leadership, collaboration, and innovation; eliminate hidden and systemic barriers to success within the Service;
- Review and evaluate systemic practices and processes that may be discriminatory and provide direction and advice to senior leadership and members on eliminating barriers that result in differential treatment, marginalization, discrimination and/or harassment;
- Increase member awareness and understanding of systemic discrimination by designing and delivering diversity and inclusivity workshops, and workplace training and education presentations;
- In collaboration with the Manager, participate in the annual diversity and inclusion accountability process and provide updates to senior leadership and the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board on an annual basis;
- Act as a subject matter expert and change agent to facilitate and provide strategies, solutions, training, tools, and resources through leadership on diversity and inclusion;
- Conduct research and provide insight on diversity and inclusion to support and facilitate change management initiatives, learning, and communication strategies;
- Track and monitor the progress and overall effectiveness of all diversity and inclusion programs, initiatives, and processes;
- Support, coordinate and oversee the implementation of the WRPS Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Plan, and WRPS Ambassador Program;
- Develop, evaluate and maintain relationships with key community partners to continue to promote equity, diversity and inclusion;
- Represents the Service at various cultural and community engagements as required;
- Supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission through the implementation of Calls to Action, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) Calls to Justice; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
You Have:
- Demonstrated knowledge of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles;
- Successful completion of a University degree in Social Science or a related field with additional specialization in equity matters;
- Three (3) to Five (5) years of progressive experience working with individuals, larger groups, external organizations, and communities to implement, improve, or support diversity and inclusion initiatives;
- Demonstrated experience in implementing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) educational programming, training, and education
- Demonstrated ability to lead and promote complex diversity and inclusion initiatives preferably in large organizations or the public sector
- Excellent communication and writing skills to prepare reports and briefing notes, policies and administrative processes, and guides, newsletters, etc.
- Presentation skills to deliver training, educational and information sessions.
- Stakeholder management, partnership and relationship building skills to initiate and nurture strong working relationships with Members and community.
- Facilitation skills, conflict resolution skills, to fairly and effectively assess and manage and assist with concerns that may arise.
- Experience in the development and evaluation of policies, guidelines, best practices, systems and processes.
- Judgement in identifying, analyzing and addressing a range of complex issues and ensuring coordinated and comprehensive practices and solutions are developed and consistent with the services’ EDI and strategic plans, legal requirements, best practices
- Demonstrated ability to strategically respond to changing priorities and resolve concerns effectively /tactfully, ability to work independently with attention to detail, strong judgement/issue management skills.
- Ability to change the way assigned work is carried out if needed; ability to change the means of achieving the objectives of the job if needed; and ability to develop new work methods to deal with new or unusual circumstances if needed.
- Attainment of Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional (CCIP) Certification or Change Management Certification (CMC) with additional courses or training concerning diversity and inclusion preferred;
- Working knowledge of employment-related legislation (e.g. Ontario Human Rights Code, Ontario Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Police Services Act);
- Strong political acuity skills to mediate sensitive political situations and provide appropriate and helpful responses while mitigating damage;
- Experience in project management and the strategic implementation of diversity and inclusion initiatives, projects, and programs;
- Problem-solving abilities in order to identify and recommend key internal organizational programs and projects to improve upon and support internal program development;
- Excellent human relations skills, especially the ability to empathize and communicate effectively in an intercultural, sexual and gender-diverse setting;
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal members of all ranks, external stakeholders, and members of the community to clarify information, build partnerships, and discuss issues;
- Expert presentation and facilitation skills, including the ability to design relevant and compelling training and workshop content. Experience conducting diversity and inclusivity workshops, workplace training, and various education programs;
- Excellent time management and organization skills are required; with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and re-adjust priorities, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information, and activities in a fast-paced environment;
- Superior analytical skills to analyze metrics and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives; and
- A valid Class “G” Driver’s License with no more than six (6) demerit points is required to travel within and outside the Region.
