About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Biobank Medical Director, and under the direction of the Biobank Coordinator, the Biobank Research Assistant contributes to administration of the Biobank by providing general administrative support and maintaining study data.

Data Collection and Management:

• Collects data related to study
• Pulls and reviews patient charts
• Develops and maintains filing systems for subject and study documentation
• Files study documents, test results, etc.
• Develops and maintains methods of tracking information through databases and spreadsheets
• Enters, summarizes, and analyses data using database and/or spreadsheets
• Archives documentation related to a study once it has closed and develops and maintains a method of retrieval from storage

 

Administrative Support:

• Completes Forms in conjunction with the Medical Director and/or Coordinator
• Processes and submits forms to Research Ethics Board (REB)
• Prepares Biobank specimens for transport and/or shipment
• Attends, records and distributes minutes for meetings
• Faxes, photocopies, books rooms, catering and meetings and other related clerical functions
• Acquires signatures for regulatory documents
• Pulls slides and blocks from storage
• Helps construct Tissue Micro Arrays (TMAs)
• Scans pathology slides

Performs other related duties as required

 

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

• Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required (Medical Terminology course preferred)
• Two years of previous experience in a health care/research setting is an asset
• CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) or CCRA (Certified Clinical Research Associate) an asset
• Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification an asset
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), email and internet
• Proficiency with current Capital Health systems (STAR, PHS and/or LIS) an asset
• Effective communication, problem solving, and decision making skills
• Ability to draft, format, and edit office correspondence
• Well developed organizational, time management, and daily planning skills
• Well developed attention to detail
• Ability to work well independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team environment
• Ensures confidentiality and works in an ethical manner
• Experience with REDCap web application an asset
• Skills and experience in promoting learning cultures that nurture equity, diversity and inclusivity with a focus on intersectional values, analysis, and actions, clinical humility, and the responsible use of power and privilege

Hours of Work and Compensation

 

This is a full time, long term assignment. Assignment will run from March 2024 - March 31st 2025. Start date may be subject to change.

 

$21.59 - $26.98 hourly/$42,085 - $52,606 annually.
