As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, The Community Family Services (CFS) Supervisor provides leadership and oversight for all CFS programs/services/mission partners and supports strong community engagement and innovative partnerships. The CFS also provides direct casework support as needed.
This position is for 40 hours/week (Monday-Friday)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example.
- Agree and adhere to The Salvation Army mission, values, and standards
- This position reports directly to the Corps Officers.
- Represent The Salvation Army at agency and community meetings as directed.
- Foster positive relations with community social services agencies/resources
Program Development/Leadership:
- Work with Corps Officers to grow and enhance a framework for Community Family Services (CFS) at High Point Community Church
- In Collaboration with Corps Officers establish a formal program plan for CFS; review/revise/adjust as needed
- Develop and conduct workshops and programs for clients/families, as appropriate
- Organize seasonal or special programs (i.e. Christmas Hamper, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, Food Drives, etc.)
- Direct and supervise CFS volunteers, which include recruitment, selection, orientation, training, evaluation and discipline; ensures volunteer safety in compliance with the Health & Safety Standards, monitors and analyzes incident reports.
- Design/develop unique programs in line with overarching program plan.
- Responsible for ongoing program evaluation, using standardized tools.
- Responsible for ongoing asset mapping of local social service programs for the benefit of the ministry unit and its staff and clients.
- Support significant Public Relations and local special events (Hope in the City Luncheon, Celebration of Lights, Kettle Kick-Off, etc.)
- Direct and supervise a small CFS staff team, including a receptionist and caseworker(s). This includes assisting with selection, orientation, training, evaluation, and discipline; ensures employee safety in compliance with the Health & Safety Standards, monitors and analyzes incident reports.
- Approve staff absences (sickness, vacation, etc.) in HR system.
- May serve as Pathway of Hope lead or Chaplain.
- Supports the Corps Officers in the ongoing stewarding and expansion of the Ministry Unit’s donor base.
Client Services:
- Provide spiritual guidance and use every opportunity to pray with and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients/ families, enabling them to become part of the Body of Christ.
- Develop and implement case management of clients
- Take responsibility for routine intake processes and decisions, following standard procedures
- May conduct initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/family protection issues), determining immediate needs and supports needed by the client
- Provide emergency assistance services (i.e. food, clothing, etc.) in accordance with policy
- Through exercising empathetic care, assist individuals to determine an appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal process; facilitate effective problem-solving behaviors of the client/family
- Assist clients in making connections within the community by making meaningful referrals to community resources.
- Network with other service providers and maintain working relationships with community agencies to provide comprehensive services for clients.
- Support, advocate for and refer clients/families in helping empower them to become more self-sufficient, and help them re-integrate into the greater community.
- Facilitate clients connecting to spiritual programs/services offered by High Point Community Church as appropriate.
Administration:
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with The Salvation Army policy and applicable legislation and keep accurate client files and statistical records
- Provide written reports as requested by supervisors.
- Maintain accurate reporting and documentation of link2feed database.
- As a member of the senior leadership team, participate in appropriate committees (CRD CFS Coordinating Committee, CRD Regional Integration Forum, Community Council- Chair)
- Supports development of annual budget for the Ministry Unit. Responsible to monitor department revenues and expenses on a monthly basis. Identify appropriate plans/strategies for responding to revenue shortfalls and expense overruns.
- Receive (and/or decline) and sort/organize non-monetary donations.
- Assist in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Community Family Services Office and donation center/ program space.
Training:
- Participate in ongoing training as provided.
- Makes recommendations re. training for team members
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- The successful job applicant will have completed an Undergraduate University degree (e.g., B.A., B.Sw.)
Experience:
- Minimum one year of prior related experience, including, experience in casework environments, which may include issues of homelessness, mental health, unemployment, abuse, addiction, parenting/ family issues.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of computer work, and occasionally leading meetings/training workshops and intervening in physical confrontations.
- The performance of the job requires attentive listening (for supervision, casework, conflict resolution, etc.), and moderate attention when doing computer work.
- Detail oriented, innovative problem solver.
- Understanding of societal issues (homelessness, poverty, addiction, mental health) and ability to respond with empathy and compassion.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Completion of our online Praesidium Academy online abuse training and required Health and Safety training
- A valid BC driver’s license
