The Christian Reformed Church of Drayton is a Christ-centred fellowship led by God’s word and Spirit to share His Gifts of Grace and Hope. We are a mid-sized, multi-generational church with about 150 active members.  We have a rich 74-year history in the Drayton community; many of our current families are second and third-generation descendants of the church’s original Dutch immigrant founders.  As our community grows in size we continually welcome new members and attendees as well.  To learn more, visit our website

Drayton CRC values vibrant, passionate and authentic worship. We are seeking a full-time Worship Director who will equip us to live out our mission and vision through worship that engages members of all ages, through services both in person and online, and to welcome all visitors into our worship space.

Position and Qualifications Summary

The Worship Director will provide approximately 40 hours per week of strong musical and spiritual leadership for worship teams and other members of the congregation involved in Worship.  They will plan and implement biblically based, creative, and engaging worship that aligns with our church’s Mission and Vision statements, and work to actively nurture musical, speaking, acting, praying and/or other worship leadership gifts in members of all ages within our congregation.  Attendance is expected most Sundays. Renumeration will be negotiated during the interview process and reviewed on an annual basis.

This individual will have a passion and vision for worship, be a follower of Christ, and a person of integrity. They will lead with a servant’s heart and be skilled in the following areas.

This individual will be heavily involved in guiding our musical worship teams. They will also organize and provide leadership in areas of scripture readings, prayer, sacraments, art, décor, media and dramatic arts, and will be able to blend traditional and contemporary worship styles to provide a meaningful worship environment for all members.  They will be flexible and collaborative in working with volunteers across all age groups.

The Worship Director will work closely with the Pastor and Office Administrator and will report to the chair of council and will be overseen by the Personnel Committee. They will attend weekly staff meetings at the Church. The Worship Director will be expected to attend and report to Worship Committees meetings (monthly) as well as report semi-annually to our congregational meetings. Mentoring and guidance will be given to provide extra support by key individuals within our membership and leadership team.

Worship Director – Detailed Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

The list below is a summary of what we expect the Worship Director to take on.  However, this is a new position at Drayton CRC so we also expect that the exact responsibilities of the role may shift depending on the needs of the church and the strengths of the person hired.

  1. Coordination and Planning of Weekly Worship Services
    1. Select and program music in consultation with the Pastor, worship leaders and tech team
    2. Create schedules for all volunteers involved in weekly worship (i.e. - praise bands, tech, organist, children’s message etc.)
    3. Create and prepare media presentations as needed (i.e. -links for live worship, i-tunes, projection slides, etc.)
    4. Connect with worship teams prior to service to go over last-minute details, to ensure seamless worship flow
  2. Coordination and Planning of Special Services
    1. Work with Worship Committee to thoughtfully plan and execute Special Worship Services (examples: Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Sacraments, Sunday School Graduation, Profession of Faith, etc.)
  3. Leadership, Musical, and other “Gifts” development
    1. Recruit, support and encourage praise teams for Sunday Worship and actively seek out volunteers for involvement in worship (vocalist, musicians, readers, as well as sound, projection, and tech people)
    2. Work with Sunday School teachers and Youth Group to implement participation in services and to offer support in their work in relation to worship in our church
    3. To encourage our “young at heart” and elderly members to participate in worship at any level.
    4. To strive for new concepts and ideas into worship services were applicable.
    5. Encourage musical and spiritual development in all congregants, with special emphasis on young children, youth and young adults.
