The Role: As the Municipal Pursuit Lead, you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and success of our organization's municipal sector by identifying, prepositioning, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities. Leveraging your expertise in municipal infrastructure, engineering, planning, and public sector engagement, you will lead strategic initiatives to expand our presence in municipal markets, foster relationships with key stakeholders, and deliver innovative solutions to address the evolving needs of our communities. This role requires exceptional communication skills, relationship-building abilities, and a keen understanding of municipal clients' unique needs and challenges.
The ideal candidate will have the following background, skills and attributes:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
- 15+ years of experience in business development or sales within the municipal sector. Alternatively, you have 15+ years of progressive project management, project delivery, and business development experience with a strong desire to expand into a Municipal Pursuit Role.
- Proven track record of success in identifying and securing new business opportunities, driving net revenue growth and profitability, and building strong client relationships within the municipal sector.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to conduct thorough market analysis and identify strategic opportunities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Working knowledge of the following fields would be an asset: roadway design, active transportation, water and sewer design, drainage design, transportation planning, and environmental assessments.
Key Responsibilities: - In collaboration with the Business Line Lead, take the initiative to identify and pursue new business opportunities within the municipal sector, utilizing effective communication and relationship-building skills to win work and drive revenue growth with attention to profitability.
- Assist in the documentation and tracking key pursuits using internal tools, including opportunity pipeline and CRM.
- Assist in preparing and submitting proposals, RFQs, and RFPs for municipal projects, collaborating with internal teams to develop compelling solutions and value propositions.
- Engage with municipal clients to understand their needs, challenges, and project requirements and tailor our offerings to address their specific objectives and priorities.
- Develop and maintain a strong network within the municipal sector to enhance business relationships and stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and client needs.
- Strategize on geographical areas for business development efforts within the municipal sector, aligning with organizational goals and market potential.
- Conduct thorough market analysis to identify potential clients, competitors, and opportunities within the municipal sector, providing valuable insights to inform business development strategies.
- Work closely with internal teams, including marketing and subject matter experts, to maximize business development efforts and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
- Maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of municipal business development activities. Provide regular reports on business development progress and market trends to inform strategic decision-making.
- Engage with clients to understand their needs and challenges, tailoring business development strategies accordingly to foster strong and lasting client relationships.
- Demonstrate effective negotiation skills in securing contracts and agreements with municipal clients to drive business growth and achieve organizational objectives.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey complex information and business propositions to municipal clients and internal stakeholders.
