Purpose
Reporting directly to the Sr. Safety Coordinator, the Industrial Hygienist will demonstrate a high level of expertise in the areas of Mine site testing, chemical substance assessments, in-house Occupational Hygiene training, and exposure level analysis.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and audit Occupational Hygiene and related programs
- Critically evaluate environments, processes, materials inventories, demographics to recognize potential health risks to persons
- Recommend effective control measures to mitigate risks via engineering and personal protective methods
- Assess human exposures to hazards through a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to determine health risks and regulatory compliance
- Coordinate Occupational Hygiene programs with related departments
- Assist in the management of the medical surveillance program
- Assists in the interpretation, implication and compliance of all relevant legislation
- Select and operate industrial hygiene testing equipment
- Work closely with the H&S group, Occupational Nurse and other stakeholders
- Closely track emerging trends and techniques in the field of Industrial Hygiene
- Other Health & Safety duties as assigned
Requirements
- University degree or college/technical diploma in Occupational Hygiene or equivalent
- Familiar with Industrial Hygiene legislation, programs, and testing applications
- Strong knowledge in OHS Legislation and compliance
- Ergonomic assessments
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of the accident investigation process, risk assessment and evaluation
- Solid understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act / regulations
- Familiar with the underground, surface and milling environments
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Effective organizational skills
- Effective motivation and presentation skills
- 3-5 years in a similar role within the mining industry
Working Conditions
The work schedule for this position is 11 on, 10 days off, working 10-hour days.
