Summary
The Process Engineer is responsible for researching, designing, and developing chemical and material processes and equipment. The position is also responsible for expanding and supporting high-volume operations, improving efficiency, and improving production processes. The role will also play a focal point in increasing our manufacturing capabilities and capacities.
The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Implement and develop ceramic and/or material manufacturing methods or processes into Production
- Translate R&D concepts into robust processes in Production
- Manage new capital equipment projects through spec development, procurement, installation, commissioning, and into Production
- Create and execute commissioning plans to validate readiness of new equipment or processes for sustained and robust production
- Write and update manufacturing procedures and work instructions
- Be a technical expert over assigned production areas or processes
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives and projects
- Lead value stream mapping exercises to understand current state
- Analyze the current production processes. Recommend and implement changes to improve efficiency, yield, quality, capacity and cost.
- Design the production space and equipment layout
- Research and present innovative solutions to production issues
- Enacting quality control procedures, monitoring and drive improvements
- Adhere to control and compliance requirements, complete quality inspections
- Interfaces with multiple functions: R&D, Product Engineering, EH&S, Quality, Production, Facilities, Equipment Vendors, among others
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
- Post-secondary education in a related field (i.e., Materials Science and Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Ceramic Engineer, Process Engineer, or related engineering fields)
- A minimum of 3 plus years of experience in high-volume manufacturing
- Project Management experience, Capital investment experience
- Experience in manufacturing or production environment
- Familiar with ceramic process analytical techniques: XRD, BET,SEM, microscopy, viscosity, measurement and particle size analysis a plus
- Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma experience
- Advanced knowledge of systems, tools, and solutions for productivity
- Understanding of technical documentation and blueprints
- Ability to determine how operations, environments, and systems interacts
- Customer-focused approach to dealing with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience utilizing AutoCAD or 3D modeling programs a plus
- ERP experience a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A high degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Detailed-orientated to ensure high-quality deliverables
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude with the ability to work independently and/or as part of a team
Work Conditions
- Multi-work environment (manufacturing, production, warehouse, research and development, office) requiring the use of PPE
- Full-time hours (40 hrs a week)
- Ability to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds
- Bending, sitting, standing, kneeling, and walking
Travel Requirements
* Travel of up to 20% might be required
