BCIT’s
School of Construction and the Environment is seeking a
temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE ) Toolroom Attendant . This position provides assistance to instructors and students such as issuing and receiving tools and training materials, assisting students and staff in correct use of tools and equipment, checking for damages and loss, making minor repairs to tools and other learning equipment, and determining when equipment must be shipped out for repair. Other duties include monitoring and maintaining tool inventory, preparing purchase requisitions and other documentation related to the tool room, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of the tool room and workshops
Duties & Responsibilities DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Maintaining Toolroom: - Issues, records and checks in tools, tool boxes, and equipment
- Monitors damage or loss of tools and equipment and reports to the chief instructor
- Performs minor repairs on damaged or broken tools
- Prepares paperwork for sending tools and equipment out for major repairs
- Ensures cleanliness of toolroom and workshops
Maintaining Inventory: - Records tool and equipment inventory
- Monitors tool room supplies and consumables and prepares purchase orders as required
- Sources components for the purpose of repairing equipment as required
- Receives parts and supplies; checks for correctness and places items received into inventory, notifies the chief instructor of any discrepancies
- Ensures paperwork and electronic documents are filed according to department procedures
- Expedites backorders and sources alternative suppliers as required
Other duties and responsibilities: - Issues shop work orders and files completed orders
- Assists and advises students and staff with respect to safety and correct use of tools and equipment
- Establishes good working relationships with all departments on campus and suppliers and outside agencies
- Ensures proper recycling of waste and unused materials
- Answers telephone in the toolroom, responds to queries and relays messages
- Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP)
- Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.

Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS : Definition: The qualifications section for this position was developed using the approved job evaluation plan, agreed to between the BCGEU and BCIT. The qualifications represent the minimum qualifications required in the future (i.e. to be reflected in job postings) and do not reflect the incumbent’s existing qualifications
Education: - Grade 12 plus completion of specialized courses up to 6 months, i.e., inventory control, operations management, business
Experience: - Two years general plus up to one year current experience in this and related jobs inside and outside of the institute.
Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise: - Sound skills in MS Office, email and the internet, Banner experience a definite asset
Communication/Interpersonal Skills: - Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills required.
Administrative Skills (e.g. prioritizing, minute taking, wp speed, etc.): - Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and pay attention to details
Other Skills/Abilities: - Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

Salary Range Salary Grade 5; $52,079 - $56,133 per annum
Additional Salary Information External hires are initially placed at the minimum of the salary range with set progressions to the maximum as per the Collective Agreement. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment
