ABOUT OEA NS
Serving employers throughout Nova Scotia, Employer Advisor Nova Scotia (OEA NS) is a not-for-profit society that supports employers, business associations, groups and agencies with advocacy, confidential assistance, advice, and education on workers’ compensation, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and interconnected employment/human resources issues.
Located in Bedford, NS, OEANS is governed by an independent sector-based Board of Directors and receives a funding subsidy from Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia (WCB) to assist employers.
OEA NS is recruiting an Employer Advisor to support employers achieve business success.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Employer Advisor will:
- Provide advice, recommendations, assistance, and interpretation for employers related to workers’ compensation, workplace health and safety and related employment issues to contribute to the employer’s business success and a strong economy in the province.
- Provide timely, practical, solutions-oriented advice on the application of workers’ compensation, OHS and related employment legislation, standards, and best practices.
- Assist employers with navigating WCB and OHS appeals.
- Develop learning objectives and outcomes that assist employers to understand and action their rights and obligations.
- Develop, facilitate, and deliver training, awareness, and education programs for employers.
- Advise, assist, and support employers with case management, disability management and rate issues.
- Promote and assist activities and programs that focus on safe return to work of employees.
- Assist in the development of workplace policies that support safe and healthy working Nova Scotians.
- Advocate for and consult with employers on matters related to the WSIS (Workplace Safety and Insurance System).
- Respond to legislative and policy consultations initiated by government and agencies related to the WSIS mandate.
- Participate in committees and groups struck by government and agencies related to the WSIS mandate.
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 7-10 years of experience in at least one of the following professional disciplines: occupational health nursing, certified safety professional, human resources management, retired or non-practicing labour/employment lawyer, or profession that has equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Relevant post-secondary education.
- Work experience in return to work, training and resolving complex issues.
- Background working with business groups and understanding best practices for employers is a must.
- Superb interpersonal and conflict management skills, tact, good judgement, and patience at all times.
- Superior time management skills to oversee multiple priorities with a quickly changing workload.
- A driver’s license to visit employers.
- Experience in the development and delivery of education programs, presentations and policy writing is required. Any professional designations must be up to date and in good standing.
