Position Responsibilities

Red Deer Polytechnic’s Donald School of Business, Science and Computing is hiring a Probationary Continuous Accounting Instructor. Probationary Continuous Instructors join RDP on a full-time basis and are supported through their first three years to grow and develop into a permanent faculty member. This role will primarily teach accounting for students in the Business Certificate, Business Diploma and Bachelor of Business Administration Degree programs.

The Donald School of Business, Science and Computing (DSBSC) at Red Deer Polytechnic impacts the vitality and strength of the economy and business community of Central Alberta through the development of graduates that work and excel in the region. The DSBSC contributes to Red Deer Polytechnic’s comprehensive mix of programming, offering learners a range of credentials including certificates, post-diploma and graduate certificates, diplomas, university transfer programs, and degrees. We continue to evolve as a School, seeking opportunities to offer innovative new programs and credentials to serve our learners. Our priority is to create an exceptional learning environment for our students by focusing on excellence in teaching in learning and experiential opportunities both inside and outside the classroom that contribute to their future success.

Position Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Associate Dean, the Probationary Continuous Accounting Instructor will:

• Deliver courses congruent with established course curricula and program outcomes,
• Support the success of students with diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and learning styles,
• Assess student learning in ways that both facilitate learning and ensure achievement against appropriate academic standards,
• Inspire students by exhibiting enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and subject material,
• Contribute to course and program curriculum development and renewal,
• Engage in scholarly activity within the domains of Ernest Boyer’s model: scholarship of discovery, application, integration, and teaching,
• Work collegially within department, School, or Institution committees and project teams.

Instructors uphold the professional responsibilities of faculty and demonstrate RDP organizational values by following related policies and practices. They are supported by the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Scholarship and are provided with a comprehensive onboarding experience to help ensure their success.

Class times take place during the day and evening and can be in-person, online, or blended. Our instructors have flexibility to do non-instructional work like grading and course preparations during the time that works best for them. Probationary Continuous Faculty members are expected to maintain a regular presence on-campus to support students and contribute to the broader RDP community.

Required Qualifications

• A Master’s Degree in a related discipline from a recognized institution
• A CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation
• A minimum of five years of related work experience
• Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• Effective time management and organizational skills
• Passion for teaching, ability to inspire students, and commitment to student learning and success
• Comfortable with public speaking, and able to convey course topics to diverse students and learning styles
• Commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctorate degree in a relevant discipline
• CPA designation
• Experience teaching post-secondary students through both in-person and online formats
• Demonstrated interest and ability to conduct research and scholarship

SalaryCompensation is determined by related experience and education. • The Faculty Association at Red Deer Polytechnic (FARDP) and the related collective agreement provides information on compensation for Instructors at Red Deer Polytechnic.

Probationary Continuous Instructors receive:

• 45 days of paid vacation annually in addition to paid time off due to Institution closures between Christmas and New Year
