Full-time Therapy Assistant Outpatient Mental Health Position, M-F 8 AM to 4 PM, 37.5 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are currently seeking a Therapy Assistant to work at the new Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital in the outpatient adult mental health Stepping Stones program. As a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team, the Therapy Assistant will mainly collaborate with the program’s Occupational Therapist(s) and Recreational Therapist in the provision of therapeutic services.

As the successful candidate, you are a graduate of a recognized Certificate or Diploma program from an “accredited community college” such as OTA/PTA, Recreational Therapy, Social Service Worker. One year of work experience in a mental health setting would be an asset. You demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with a high level of initiative and adaptability to rapidly changing demands. 

Responsibilities:

• To work within appropriate service / clinical / professional guidelines in the development and delivery of both group and individual clinical interventions in a mental health out-patient setting.
• To plan and implement life skill activity-based group interventions, in collaboration with supervising Occupational Therapist and other members of the multi-professional team, which support patients in improving their day-to-day functioning and achieve their goals.
• To work with patients on an individual basis, when delegated by Occupational Therapist or other members of the multi-professional team, to help achieve occupational goals. 
• To gather information on community resources available to patients and maintain program community board.
• To liaise with community agencies and schedule presentations to the program. 
• Deliver safe and therapeutically beneficial exercises in a group environment and supervise patients in outpatient gym.
• Ensure gym and group treatment areas are safe and tidy.
• Maintain regular ongoing communication with the Occupational Therapist and multi-professional team regarding any changes or concerns about a patient's status or treatment interventions. 
• To work as an integrated member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to clinical discussion in Rounds and Team meetings.

Requirements:

• Completed an OTA/PTA Diploma.
• Minimum 1-year experience working in an inpatient setting is required ( inpatient unit experience is preferred).
• Knowledge of adaptive equipment, gait aids and wheelchairs.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
• Ability to perform repetitive bending, reaching, pushing, lifting and transferring using proper/safe body mechanics.
• BCLS certificate.
• Criminal background check, Vulnerable sector check and Immunization record (current).
• Must be available 8 AM to 4 PM (Mon-Fri) with one weekend shift per month
