Adapted Program Instructor

Job description

The City of Courtenay invites applications for the position of "Adapted Program Instructor”.

Directly leads, facilitates, and assists in planning of adapted and inclusive recreational programs in accordance for children, youth and adults with disabilities. Creates quality experiences for patrons. Makes recommendations on program adaptation, supplies & equipment. Performs set up and take down as needed.

Minimum Requirements
•    Diploma, certificate, or degree in related field – i.e. Therapeutic Recreation, Human Services, Community Support Worker, Special Education, etc. or a combination of education and experience
•    First Aid Level 1 & CPR C
•    Criminal Record Check
•    Working with people with disabilities
•    Facilitating recreational programming
•    Program Planning
•    Interpersonal, communication, organizational, time-management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
•    Ability to adapt activities to meet participant’s needs
•    Highly motivated and ability to work as a team and independently
•    Ability to build healthy relationships with participants and promote positive values and recreational benefits
•    Ability to work a variety of shifts, including days, afternoon, evenings, weekday and weekends as required for operational requirements.

Complimentary Qualification:
•    Class 4 driver’s licence

Wages depend on education and experience, & range from $21.00-$30.00/hour.
