Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY


We are currently seeking a General Manager for a well-established and prestigious golf club. In this highly critical and visible position, the General Manager will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership in line with the club’s mission, vision, and values. The position will report directly to the Board of Directors through the President.


OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES


Leadership

• In collaboration with the Board of Directors, define strategic goals and business objectives while considering all aspects pertaining to the club’s activities, members, and employees.

• Drive the development and implementation of strategic goals to achieve business, financial, and market leadership objectives.

• Inspire, align, and fully engage the management team by effectively communicating the club's mission, vision, and strategic direction, focusing on enhancing the overall member experience.

• Lead the development of the management team members to foster a culture of high quality and service, accountability, and collaboration, providing opportunities for employee growth and career advancement.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with members, suppliers, and business partners; ensure visibility with external stakeholders such as associations, government entities, and other industry players.

• Drive strategic decision-making and maintain a competitive edge by monitoring market trends, competition, and industry developments.

• Incorporate succession planning by coaching staff for critical leadership roles.

• Establish and uphold governance practices and ensure adherence to process.


Operations

• Oversee the club’s operations, which include facility and golf course maintenance, building oversight, staffing, food and beverage, and so forth.

• Ensure that all operational activities comply with the club’s elevated standards by providing guidance and oversight to the management team and staff.

• Identify opportunities for process improvement, streamlining operations, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the club.

• Oversee and attend, in collaboration with the management team and staff, all club events and functions to ensure seamless execution. Foster continuous dialogue and build rapport with members during these events and functions.

• Oversee all the club’s capital projects, such as renovations, construction, technology, and ERP implementation.

• Oversee all marketing activities and initiatives highlighting the club's experience, services, and facilities, fostering the club’s exclusive and prestigious image to retain and attract members.

• Ensure that the club is compliant with all industry bylaws and regulations.

• Understand all aspects of business management, including business development, finance, information technology, marketing, human resources, risk management, and performance management.


Finance

• Oversee the preparation of annual budgets and long-term financial plans, forecasts, and cost management and ensure they align with the club’s activities and business objectives.

• Ensure the efficient and timely completion of all financial and reporting activities in line with industry practices specific to non-profit club operations.

• Oversee the day-to-day operations and ensure cash flow optimization.

• Identify and investigate budget variances and discrepancies on a regular basis.

• Present financial results and recommendations to the Board of Directors.

• Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities comply with legal, regulatory, and corporate policies and best practices.


THE IDEAL PROFILE

Qualifications and skills and or attributes

• Ten (10) years of relevant experience in a leadership role, preferably in prestigious environments, the hospitality industry, entertainment, or other relevant fields.

• A post-secondary degree in business, hospitality, or other relevant industry.

• Track record in successfully managing food and beverage financials and operations.

• Effective multi-tasker with the ability and willingness to work at both the operational and strategic levels.

• Track record in successfully managing profit and losses and proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning with the ability to interpret financial reports.

• Strong strategic thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.

• Visionary leadership with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve excellence.

• Experience reporting to a board and ensuring corporate governance.

• Client-focused leadership and ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in both French and English.
