We are looking for a Technical Project Manager (RCO) to support the NRC Automotive and Surface Transportation Research Center (AST). The Technical Project Manager would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity. 

 

The Automotive and Surface Transportation Research Centre has the mandate to advance product and process technologies for producing more fuel-efficient, affordable, and environmentally responsible ground vehicles and to deliver engineering solutions to complex technology challenges facing surface transport industries, including heavy vehicles and rail. The Research Centre also works with industry to develop sustainable packaging solutions and eco-friendly manufacturing technologies and products.  

 

The successful candidate will be part of the Advanced Manufacturing team, whose objective is to help manufacturers of transportation equipment (aeronautics and ground transportation) by conducting innovative research in advanced manufacturing, with a view to reducing production costs (design, procurement, processing and assembly).   

 

The Technical Project Manager provides governance support to the program team to ensure effective management of the program supported. S/he provides project and program management skills to assist the program team and scientific and business development staff in achieving operational goals and implementing technical, research, or collaborative service projects within the program. More specifically, as a Technical Project Manager for the Advanced Manufacturing Program, the successful candidate will work closely with researchers and business development officers to ensure rigorous operational practices for technical services, research, collaborative, multi-partner, and industrial R&D group projects and contribute to the sound management of program performance. S/he will foster partnerships between internal and external stakeholders, contribute to the management of business opportunities (e.g., SOW and deliverables review, costing and pricing, risk management), and contribute to the overall development, execution and coordination of the program. As a member of the Project Management Support Office (PMSO), S/he will contribute to the definition and adherence to best practices in program and project management.

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science.  

 

Preference will be given to a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electromechanical engineering, mechatronics, materials and metallurgy or robotics. 

 

Graduation in business administration or a program specializing in project management could be considered an asset.

This position is classified as a Research Council Officer (RCO), a group that is unique to the NRC. Candidates are remunerated based on their expertise, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level. The salary scale for this group is vast, from $57,220 to $161,754 per annum, which permits for employees of all levels from new graduates to world renowned experts to be fairly compensated for their contributions.

 

In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
