The Opportunity
Port Saint John is part of the critical transportation infrastructure of Canada and a cornerstone of the New Brunswick economy. Port Saint John is Atlantic Canada's largest port by volume and has a diverse cargo base, handling 28 million metric tonnes of cargo annually, including dry and liquid bulks, break bulk, containers, and cruise.
Port Saint John is seeking a passionate individual for the fulltime permanent position of Accounting Analyst. Working closely with the Controller, this position is a key enabler to the financial management of Port Saint John. This position balances clerical processing with financial analysis while bringing important accounting knowledge to the team. The successful candidate must have a willingness to perform a variety of tasks at differing levels with timeliness, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
Your Focus:
- Ensure all sources of revenue are accurately and expediently invoiced, including, marine tariffs, property revenue, and cost recovery initiatives;
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements;
- Complete monthly variance analysis, audit internal processes, and resolve issues as needed;
- Provide Management with ad-hoc reports and respond to inquiries as required;

- Coordinate the monthly forecasting process to facilitate budget management for departments to ensure accurate reporting of revenue and expenses;
- Ensure tariffs and Terminal Operator contracts are setup and updated correctly within the Port Management System;
- Contribute to the development of the annual budget including the preparation of the annual revenue budget for tariffs and leases and the salaries and benefits budget;
- Work with the auditors on the annual external audit by providing any information or documents as required;
- Prepare IFRS compliant notes to the audited financial statements;
- Participate in the development and implementation of ongoing process improvement initiatives such as system enhancements and internal accounting processes;
- Review and support regular payroll functions for all regular employees, part-time employees, and board of directors.
Essential qualifications
You Have:
- Completed university degree focusing on accounting or related field;
- Minimum 2 years' experience in accounting or finance role;
- CPA Designation or CPA Candidate (working towards your CPA in the Professional Education Program);
- Working knowledge of accounting practices and systems;
- Working knowledge of accounting practices;
- Strong technology (Excel, Power BI, systems) and analytical skills;
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central is an asset.
