Mission is located on the unceded, ancestral, and shared territory of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically on Leq’á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq’éwlets, and Katzie traditional territories in the lower mainland of BC. Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town flavor.

Job Description
Are you eager to play a key role in promoting and educating FireSmart initiatives in your community? We are currently recruiting for a temporary, Local FireSmart Representative for approx. five (5) to six (6) months, starting as soon as possible. This position is made available through CRI grant funding

Working out of Fire Hall #1, the Local FireSmart Representative facilitates and delivers FireSmart related functions and activities. You will ensure that the FireSmart activities are supported, developed and implemented in accordance with FireSmart BC and the direction, procedures and policy provided by the City of Mission. You will work collaboratively with other staff to support plans and to achieve strategic organizational goals. You will also ensure that the objectives detailed in the CRI grant are met related to the quantity and quality of home assessments

Qualifications
The successful applicant will have knowledge of fire prevention, FireSmart and emergency preparedness programs and be familiar with fire and public safety education, the fire service operation and emergency management. You will be able to effectively deliver educational and outreach materials to a variety of audiences, using your excellent communications, presentation and public speaking skills. You will need to have taken FireSmart training courses and have some relevant experience. Having a valid Class 5 driver’s license and be able to attain the Local FireSmart Representative qualifications along with the NFPA 1035 Public Education Level 1

Additional Information
This position will be compensated at the probationary fire fighter rate of $34.129 (2022) per hour plus 14.75% in lieu of benefits, pension and statutory holidays. The position will work 35 hours over four days per week, for approximately five (5) to six (6) months depending on grant funding
