As the Business Strategist you will work independently within a cross-divisional setting to support three lines of service (Water Treatment & Supply, Wastewater Collection & Treatment, and Stormwater Management). The Business Strategist provides strategic expertise to engage leadership and other interested parties in navigating complex and emerging issues, plans and manages priority projects, advances risk management and continuous improvement activities, and supports divisional planning and performance reporting, enabling The Utility to deliver on identified One Calgary priorities and provide the utility services Calgarians' value. Primary duties include:
- Bring together the interested parties from across The Utility's three lines of service and internal City partners to build alignment and support effective service delivery.
- Manage complex projects and build awareness and understanding of business issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Work with various levels of leadership and multidisciplinary teams to develop strategic policies, frameworks and plans in priority areas.
- Help the Utility gather and analyze information on emerging issues, industry trends, service innovations, and customer expectations.
Qualifications - A completed degree in Business, Science, Social Sciences, Environmental Planning, Public Administration, Marketing or Communications.
- At least 5 years of related experience in strategic planning, communications planning, policy and guideline development, or primary and secondary research in a Water Utility or a complex multi-divisional organization.
- Project and/ or policy management experience/ skills and the ability to work on several time-sensitive projects simultaneously and manage ambiguity is required.
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative research and analysis, and Council report writing would be considered as asset.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and strategic thinking skills are essential as well as the ability to prioritize, build consensus among interested parties and influence without authority.
