Job description
GFL Environmental is looking for a highly motivated Human Resources Manager to join our team based out of our Mississauga, Ontario office! The Human Resources Manager establishes ‘high-functioning’ partnerships with an assigned set of business groups and its senior leaders and managers to develop and execute on business unit and cross functional strategies that aligns with our business vision and objectives. In a generalist capacity you will undertake a leadership and tactical role in will manage the delivery of services in employee relations (ER), labour relations (LR) and workforce planning that will enable the establishing of ‘gold standard’ people best practices. This incumbent will be required to travel to multiple sites within the area given to them.
Key Responsibilities :
- Act as a strategic partner in providing employee and labour relations advice, support and guidance with respect to policies and legislation, interpretation/compliance to assist the Ontario region in achieving their operational goals
- Lead engagement with employee groups and union representatives that focuses on communication, planning and problem solving to ensure excellent employee and labour relations
- Implement human resources programs by providing human resources services, including talent acquisition, staffing, employment processing, compensation, health and welfare benefits, training and development, records management, safety and health, succession planning, employee retention and compliance
- Provide resolutions to employee relations issues (e.g., employee complaints and grievances) by conducting thorough and objective investigations
- Improve manager and employee performance by identifying and clarifying problems; evaluating potential solutions; implementing selected solution; coaching and counseling managers and employees
- Develop and analyze measurable reports providing fiscal justification for personnel activities in regard to staffing levels/deployment, turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, compensation, promotions and employee productivity
- Sustain and develop knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed laws and regulations affecting human resources management
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies :
- College Diploma or University Degree specializing in Business, Human Resources or related field, with an CHRP Designation preferred
- Minimum 3+ years of related experience in progressive human resources areas of expertise
- A valid G driver’s license, access to a vehicle and the ability to travel to various office locations
- Experience working in a large complex multiple stakeholder and unionized environments
- Strong leadership skills focused on results and teamwork, with a client service orientation
- Advance knowledge and experience of current Canadian labor laws, Human Rights and Employment Standards to resolve matters independently, while using appropriate judgment to seek guidance and counsel as required to navigate complex matters
- Demonstrate experience in writing professional documentation such as policies, procedures, labour briefings, business cases, disciplinary or corrective action, and corporate communications
- Excellent negotiation, communication and analytical skills
