Located in the heart of South-Central New Brunswick, the Fundy Regional Service Commission (FRSC) proudly serves seven vibrant communities: Fundy-St. Martins, Grand Bay-Westfield, Hampton, Quispamsis, Rothesay, Saint John, and the Fundy Rural District.

• A post-secondary degree in planning, community design or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as a registered professional planner.
• Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners and Atlantic Planners Institute
• Proven track record of overseeing large-scale projects, conducting public engagement initiatives, and possessing a comprehensive understanding of local and regional planning practices.
• Demonstrated history of delivering exceptional customer service in a professional planning environment.
• Well-developed organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask competing priorities and strict deadlines.
• Experience in report preparation; excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office, GIS and public engagement software.
• A track record of successful project management and team collaboration.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques is an asset.
• Professional proficiency in both French and English would be an asset.

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Community Planning will be responsible for dynamic regional planning initiatives, working closely with stakeholders to bring the region's vision for growth and development to life. This position will spearhead projects spanning various sectors, from land-use planning to demographic, social, economic, facility, and transportation planning. Overseeing a talented team of professionals and leading the charge in creating vibrant, sustainable communities that thrive for generations to come. This role will also be the driving force behind fostering collaboration between communities, businesses, developers, and the public, ensuring that everyone's voice is heard and valued in the planning process.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Lead the charge crafting medium and long-term plans, fostering growth, vibrancy, and prosperity.
• Design, monitor, and refine rural plans, subdivision bylaws, and other regulations that lay the groundwork for sustainable development.
• Drive innovation by spearheading needs assessments, asset mapping, and gap analysis, uncovering opportunities for growth and improvement.
• Coordinate and synthesizes information from multiple disciplines; reviews, assesses, and provides independent professional recommendations, such as land use and planning policy, housing, source water protection, transportation, development, and environmental stewardship.
• Provide planning expertise and regulatory navigation to landowners, nonprofits, and developers in the pursuit of their development objectives.
• Act as primary lead developing recommendations for the Planning Review and Adjustment Committee and ensuring adherence to bylaws and provincial legislation.
• Advise senior management and elected officials on strategic matters, creating compelling briefings and reports on challenges and opportunities facing the Fundy Region; Develop and present reports to the Commission's committees, Board, partners, and local councils.
• Spearhead inclusive and transparent public and stakeholder engagement initiatives, forging strong community bonds and crafting recommendations that reflect diverse voices.
• Establish goals and targets in the delivery of community planning and building inspection services for the Fundy Region, monitoring progress, and offering regular reporting.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with municipal staff, customers, developers, and other stakeholders.
• Oversee and administer budgets for the Community Planning and Building Inspection Department, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
• Work closely with other local planning departments within the Fundy Region and planning expertise within other regional service commissions.
• Proactively seek out partnership opportunities with regional partners and provincial departments, to leverage expertise and funding to support the Commission's mandate.
• Develop and maintain cutting-edge information management systems for community planning and building inspection services, ensuring data-driven decision-making and efficiency.
• Support the day-to-day operations of community planning services, ensuring seamless service delivery.
