The Elmira facility is a state of the art production facility used to manufacture synthetic lubricants and additives for lubricants, plastics and rubber. In addition to the main production facilities we have a comprehensive wastewater treatment system that is used to treat all of the process wastewater that is generated on site, and a groundwater treatment system to remove historic contaminants prior to discharge. The Elmira site is also home to a pilot plant, which is used by our scientists and engineers to develop and test new products and production processes.

Situated on 75 acres (of which 22 acres are used for operations), the manufacturing facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our hourly employees are represented by the United Steelworkers Union.

The West Hill facility began its operations in 1962, The first operation at the West Hill site consisted of a custom blending facility for a major Canadian oil and gas company. In 1992, the property at 565 Coronation Drive was purchased. It currently houses offices, a research and development laboratory and a finished goods warehouse.

Today, around 100 employees work at the West Hill facility where we manufacture Grease and Specialty Additives. Our grease is used to keep machinery running smoothly in food processing, manufacturing, marine, power generation and many other industries. Our Specialty Additives and lubricants are used in automotive, marine and aviation oils, transmission fluids and fuels to enhance performance and extend engine life.

Both sites (Elmira and West Hill) are registered under the ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management standards.

Job Highlights

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Specialist is responsible for providing hands-on EHSS support for the Elmira facility, with the goal of making the site "incident free" in all aspects of EHSS.

Main Responsibilities:

• Ensure site compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA) requirements and with federal, provincial, regional, and municipal legislations governing Environmental programs on site.
• Manage day-to-day activities associated with LANXESS life critical (i.e. confined space, hot work, line breaking, elevated work...) and other safety procedures.
• Facilitate investigation of HSE incidents, ensuring that root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
• Report incidents/action items using LANXESS tools.
• Assist with occupational healthy and safety program development.
• Participate in various corporate, customer, and legal audits/site visits, as well as conduct various internal audits as outlined by the audit plan.
• Assist in the development of Job Safety Analyses (JSA) in conjunction with the occupational staff.
• Drive contininous improvement EHSS measures and develop, where appropriate, HSE and emergency preparedness/response related training programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, Occupational Health Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or equivalent.
• 3 to 5 years of practical environmental and/or process engineering experience, preferably in the chemical manufacturing industry.
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent certification is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of Ontario and federal HS&E legislation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
• Prior experience implementing environmental management systems and compliance programs a plus.
• Strong organizational and communication (written & verbal) skills at all levels of an organization.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Some travel to the West Hill (Toronto) facility may be required.
