(Two Year Contractual Position)
The Core Research Equipment and Instrument Training (CREAIT) Network at Memorial University invites applications for the position of Research Laboratory Coordinator II, responsible for the management and operation of Memorial's Explorer class AUV.
DUTIES
Reporting to the Operations Manager, CREAIT Network, the successful applicant will perform professional and technical work in a research support capacity involving the day-to-day operation of the Explorer AUV and the AUV laboratory. This position will be responsible for operating and maintaining the vehicle and for maintaining the instruments or sensors at optimal performance levels; scheduling and assisting users with the design, implementation, and interpretation of missions with the vehicles; designing missions and conducting experiments; preparing the vehicle for field missions as per the users' requirements; coordinating field missions, travel arrangements, and transportation of the AUV to field sites both inside and outside the province; assuming responsibility for and safety of everyone in the field work; interpreting data results; training students and staff associated with the vehicle; generating reports, grant proposals, and publications; developing business, nurturing partnerships, and expanding the user base for the vehicle; and performing other related duties as required.
As the key functional resource for the AUV/ AOSCENT laboratory (as part of the wider CREAIT Network of scientific laboratories at Memorial) the successful candidate will provide strategic direction and business development in the context of private or public project development; pure and applied research initiatives in support of laboratory operation and development; leadership and growth in Memorial's contribution to AUV development worldwide. This will require method design and trials for scientific and industry applications, project development in support of technical, operational and financial growth initiatives and functional support to a variety of industry or academic partnerships in establishing Memorial and its affiliates as a world leader in AUV design, operation and performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) in the maintenance, modification or customization, and operation of AUVs; completion of a Ph.D. in Engineering with a specialization in underwater vehicle and/or AUVs. Specific experience with the International Submarine Engineering Explorer class AUV would be considered an asset
SALARY $74,755 - $96,902 per annum (Management and Professional)
