Job description
An Occupational Therapist (OT) provides therapeutic services to clients with a variety of disabilities/impairments. Therapeutic services may include: assessment, development of a rehabilitation plan, establishing goal-directed therapy services, providing OT treatment, updating therapy services and discharging or transitioning clients to community services. The OT supervises rehabilitation assistants, and arranges for kinesiologist services as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupation Therapy
Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of BC (COTBC)
All OTs will require a training period at SMART Rehabilitation Consulting Ltd that will include:
Charting protocols
Education regarding various funders’ protocols
Report protocols
Training in report writing
Observation of OTs, Kinesiologists and Rehabilitation Assistants performing a variety of therapies with clients.
Regular supervision and feedback during a 3 month training period
Ongoing training will include:
Regular OT meetings with a component of education/training.
Supervision/guidance on an as needed basis from practice leader or from other OTs
Guidance/training as needed by PT or Kinesiologist
Attendance at courses or conferences
Self-directed education/training (reading articles, on-line courses, etc).
GENERAL JOB DUTIES:
Provide OT treatment to clients with a wide variety of injuries/disabilities
Provide Case Management services
Hospital discharge planning
Home assessment
Physical assessment
Cognitive assessment
Functional assessments
Formulating a rehabilitation plan
Gathering an appropriate rehabilitation team
Ensuring that rehabilitation goals are progressing
Providing OT assessments/treatments as required
Communication with all team members
Leading team meeting s as necessary
Wiring initial, update and discharge reports
Direct and oversee rehabilitation assistants
Regularly communicate with funding agencies (email, fax, text or phone calls)
Attend OT and/or staff meetings as requested
Travel to/from clients home, medical suppliers, client work locations, community locations, hospital, etc.

OTs may be asked to take on other roles with SMART Rehabilitation Consulting including:
Leading meetings
Providing education to other staff members
Mentoring other OTs
Supervising students (OT or RA)
Providing education to community groups or families
Marketing OT services to potential funders
