Job description
The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.
The incumbent provides executive assistant and administrative support services to the Chief Judge and judges of the Territorial Court (primarily the four resident judges but also deputy judges). In addition, in acting as executive assistant to the Chief Judge, the incumbent must provide front-line liaison between that office and the executive branch of the G.N.W.T., court staff, RCMP, Canadian Bar Association, Law Society of the NWT, members of the legal profession, media and the general public.
The Senior Judicial Executive Assistant works in collaboration with the Chief Judge, other Territorial Court Judges, the Courts Administrator and three Territorial Court Registries (Yellowknife, Hay River and Inuvik), in scheduling approximately 20 community courts. The Territorial Court calendar is produced by the Senior Judicial Executive Assistant and then distributed to approximately 85 locations throughout the NWT.
