The Nurse Practitioner RN (NP) is an advanced practice nurse with knowledge and skills gained through additional education and experience. The Nurse Practitioner blends an in-depth knowledge of nursing with the legal authority to support the full range of options for end of life care including medical assistance in dying. The RN (NP) practices within a framework of evidence-based end of life care. The Nurse Practitioner supports patients and their families in the request for patients to receive medical assistance in dying and coordinates a seamless patient journey. Promotes and supports the Saskatchewan Health Authority vision for patient centered care. The RN (NP) collaborates with interdisciplinary team members and liaises with health professionals and agencies throughout the organization (province) to facilitate high quality care for the patient and family seeking this service. The RN (NP) plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates both public and health professional awareness and educational activities related to medical assistance in dying. The position is primarily located in Saskatoon and responds to needs in all health facilities and dwellings within neighbouring urban and rural areas.
Job Qualifications Required Qualifications
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred. Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) as an RN (NP). Valid drivers license and the ability to travel both within the Service Area and Provincially.
Experience Five (5) years full-time experience as a Registered Nurse. Three (3) years experience in adult education or a teaching role. Two (2) years full-time experience working in an advanced RN (NP) role including community needs assessment, community development and health promotion . Minimum one (1) year nursing experience in end of life care is an asset.

- Ability to act professionally and with respect with those with conscientious objection to medical assistance in dying
- Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships and communication with other health care professionals
- Be a champion of patient and family centred care, including: sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, and particularly for the traditional care needs of those patients of First Nations or Metis ancestry, patient advocacy and social justice concerns.
- Be sensitive and attuned to stakeholder and community processes and needs, including but not limited to, government processes.
- Commitment to continued learning and professional development.
- Communication skills; both verbal and nonverbal, to create positive outcomes, build relationships, and support the change process.
- Critical thinking and accurate interpretation of complex information from a variety of sources, including client data, environmental factors, test results, nursing assessment indicators required for safe and effective client care

- Demonstrated ability in teaching staff and patients/residents/clients/families

- Demonstrated skill in intravenous insertions and maintenance required.

- Demonstrates leadership skills in order to encourage, advise, and collaborate with provincial colleagues and partners to promote and maintain positive relationships and achieve client, team and organizational objectives
- Ensure the portfolio is in compliance with relevant legislation and other directives of the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles of patient and family centered care, incorporating these principles into personal practice and within the organization.
- Knowledge of conflict resolution techniques
- Knowledge of end of life care and the principles essential to maintaining dignity and comfort in the final stages of life.
- Knowledge of research processes and program evaluation.

- Travel within the province of Saskatchewan is required

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) requires a criminal record check (CRC) from every potential SHA team member. The CRC must be dated within the past six (6) months and be satisfactory to the SHA.
