ABOUT THE ROLE
An exciting and challenging opportunity within TransAlta’s Data & Analytics team. Reporting to the Manager Data & Analytics, the Data Architect will be responsible for the technical oversight and direction of all data and analytic strategies and value opportunities for the company. Working withing the data & analytics team the architect will design, develop, and maintain the future state architecture and vision for data at TransAlta. Working closely with a team of talented analytics engineers, scientists, and analysts, this role will also provide technical guidance to all analytics solutions, balancing technical debt, total cost of ownership and strategic alignment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Alongside the broader data & analytics team and leadership, own and collaborate on a long-term data strategy for the organization encompassing analytics, data management, and business intelligence
Provide technical oversight to all architecture needs related to data, from solutioning to review
Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, scientists, and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide solutions
Research and evaluate new data technologies, tools, and best practices to improve the data architecture and infrastructure
Document and communicate the data architecture, design, and standards to the relevant teams and stakeholders
Plan and implement data platform solutions for the enterprise
Support the maturity of data management for the organization by helping develop long term technical solutions
Support the maturity of our data lake including creation of new data pipelines, architecting new data source connections, and supporting existing solutions
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field
At least 5 years of experience in data architecture, modeling, and engineering
Proficient in SQL and one or more programming languages (Python, Java, Scala, etc.)
Experience with various data platforms and technologies (MS Azure, Databricks, Python, etc.)
Knowledge of data quality, governance, and security principles and practices
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
