The Nova Scotia Emergency Management Office (NSEMO) serves as the provincial office which oversees both emergency management and the provincial 911 system. Nova Scotia’s 911 system operates on a province wide basis and is a collaborative model comprised of many different partner agencies. Coordination and alignment of policy and processes with best practices is a key factor to the success of the 911 business systems.
Working in a dynamic team environment, the 911 Planning & Evaluation Officer supports policy and program review by leading research efforts to develop and analyze policy options on a broad range of 911 Division issues and programs. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategy & Planning, you will use various research methods to identify, analyze and document policy options, draft recommendations, and ensure quality control of systems, helping ensure a smooth transition to Next Generation 911 (NG911).
You will use your outstanding organizational skills to research, develop, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of information management systems related to continuous improvement of 911 services. There is a significant writing component to this position as it supports documenting findings of environmental scans, reviewing and updating policies, contracts, Memorandums of Understandings and Standard Operating Procedures. You will also use interpersonal skills to develop effective working relationships across a variety of levels/ work units internal and external to NSEMO, plus play a key role in providing project management support to 911 projects and initiatives.

This role is in a fast-paced decision-making environment. Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day. You may occasionally be required to travel to off-site worksite locations.
In an emergency/disaster situation, you will be part of an on-call team and you will be expected to work shift work, possibly with little or no notice. These situations can include stressful conditions (physical, emotional, and mental pressure) in the Provincial Coordination Centre (PCC). During emergencies, you could be required to be available to report to work 24/7/365.
You must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel, as required. As an integral member of the NSEMO team, there is an expectation that you will participate on the on-call duty roster and work within the Provincial Coordination Centre (PCC) during emergencies where you will be expected to work shifts outside of normal work hours and execute duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be required to apply for a security clearance.
Pay Grade: PR 13
Salary Range: $2,543.38 - $3,091.70 Bi-Weekly
