About Our Opportunity

 

Leading a team of professional engineers, hydrogeologists, clerical staff, environment officers, and public health officers you will oversee the effective regulatory management of the district office in Bedford.  As the District Manager, you will ensure the timely and effective administration of the Environment Act and Regulations, Public Health legislation, and Food Safety Regulations.

You will develop and maintain strong relationships with officials in federal, provincial, and municipal jurisdictions and act as the key liaison with all environmental regulatory authorities. With this, you will also act as the first point of contact regarding regulatory approvals and/or ministerial orders.

Primary Accountabilities

 

Using strategic decision-making skills, you will implement changes based on principles, values, and business cases, to proactively monitor risks and determine risk tolerances while integrating risk management into program management and organizational planning. You will also manage the issuance of approvals, inspections, monitoring, and audits including compliance and enforcement procedures for all site activities regulated under the legislation for the district.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

You have completed a Bachelors’ Degree in a related field (such as Science, Engineering, Environmental Studies, etc.), as well as several years of progressive experience in a similar field with some experience at a supervisory level. An equivalent combination or training and experience will also be considered.

As the successful candidate, a thorough knowledge of department legislation, regulations and standards is required. You will have experience leading diverse groups of staff for the inspection, compliance, and enforcement of regulations in many different programs using the appropriate tool such as a directive, warning, summary offence ticket, long form prosecution or Ministerial Order.

To be successful within this position, you will also have knowledge/experience in motivation and coaching techniques, as well as sound judgment, strong problem-solving skills, and decision-making abilities. You will possess effective management and leadership skills to ensure adequate staff development as well as demonstrated administrative skills in the areas of financial management, time management, project and policy development, and human resources management. Previous experience working within various levels of Government (Federal, Provincial, and Municipal), public presentation, and responding to media inquiries is also required.

Leadership competencies required at this level of work are; Decisiveness, Strategic Orientation, Developing Others, Team Leadership, Self-Awareness and Personal Impact, Effective Interactive Communication, Partnering and Relationship Building, and Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade:EC 12 

Salary Range: $3,238.10 - $4,452.43 Bi-Weekly
