Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Services Analyst for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Employee Services department. Reporting to the Employee Services Manager and as part of this collaborative and skilled team, you will be responsible for the full cycle bi-weekly payroll processing for MacEwan University’s union and non-union staff. This includes year-end reporting, time and labour processing, benefits processing, financial reconciliation, and Local Authorities Pension Plan processing and administration. Key responsibilities include:
- Validating, auditing, and processing full-cycle payroll, reconciling calculations and data input to ensure accuracy and compliance with legislation and union agreements;
- Preparing and calculating all employee earnings and group benefit deductions;
- Leading the payroll team on a rotating basis in processing bi-weekly payroll, delegating tasks as needed;
- Preparing third-party vendor requests for payments;
- Preparing bi-weekly CRA remittances for statutory deductions and reporting;
- Administering the time and labour process and approvals;
- Reconciling all payroll general ledger accounts and required bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly journal entries, including fiscal year-end reconciliation;
- Processing all pension transactions, including commencements, changes, transfers terminations, leave of absences and reconciliation to Alberta Pension Services, including year-end activities;
- Managing T4-slips, including reconciliation and analysis of all year-end slip information to ensure accuracy and processing any amendments;
- Reconciling and submitting WCB annual returns;
- Administering and reporting Records of Employment;
- System testing, validation, and documentation; and
- Providing guidance, clarity and interpretation of collective agreements, policies and regulations to MacEwan employees.
SKILLS
You will have:
- Comprehensive knowledge of end-to-end payroll processing;
- Comprehensive knowledge of Federal and Provincial legislation, including Income Tax, CPP, and EI;
- Understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements in relation to general accounts and expenses;
- Excellent time management and organizational skills;
- Strong problem-solving, investigative, and analytical skills, with the ability to recommend effective solutions;
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain adaptable while working in a team environment, under tight deadlines; and
- An aptitude for accuracy.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation.
- A minimum of five years of progressive experience in executing full-cycle payroll processing, reporting and implementation.
- A diploma in Human Resources or Accounting would be an asset.
- Experience with PeopleSoft, Local Authorities Pension Plan (APS) and a unionized environment would be an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
