RESPONSIBILITIES
The City Manager responsibilities include but are not limited to:
City Council
- Carry out and enforce all orders, resolutions and Bylaws of the City Council and all reports of Committees and Commissions as approved by the City Council.
- Administer the day-to-day business affairs of the City of Yorkton in accordance with the policies and plans made or approved by Council.
- Provide general supervision of the work conducted by all departments of the city.
- Compile, consider and present to Council recommendations arising from departmental operations, and propose the necessary bylaws, policies or resolutions arising from such recommendations.
Communication/Leadership
- Maintain an effective team of leaders by providing guidance and coaching to department heads.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, members of Council and the public.
- Demonstrate strong self-management skills and further personal and professional development.
- Assist in developing departmental goals and objectives.
Coordination
- Prepare annual budget, control expenditures, optimize various revenue sources and ensure cost effective operations are implemented and maximized.
- Administer when adopted by Council, the annual budget of the City and be accountable to Council for financial affairs of the City.
- Authorize the sale of any City of Yorkton property.
- Devise remedial actions for any identified issues and conduct crisis management when necessary.
Strategic Management
- Undertake strategic and business planning initiatives to improve organizational efficiency and productivity as required.
- Participate in business and strategic planning, implementation of policies, development of improvements and other activities.
- Maintain constant awareness of new trends and developments in the municipal leadership field.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a field of study related to political studies or finance such as Public Administration, Business Administration, or Commerce.
- Previous experience in municipal government.
- 15+ years of senior leadership experience.
