Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the casual position of Summer Recreation Art Instructor in Parks & Recreation. The Summer Recreation Art Instructor leads art programs in day camps for a variety of age groups. The Instructor designs activities within a planned curriculum. Other responsibilities include: assisting with program promotion, inventory/ cleanup/ storage/ repair/ maintenance of community art equipment and supplies, working with volunteers and providing on-site customer service, developing an arts module for training and instructional purposes, researching new trends and administering/ collecting/ reporting on program evaluations and questionnaires.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
• Currently enrolled in High School or University and planning to return in the fall
• Knowledge and understanding of fine arts and crafting
Assets
• Experience teaching art
• Previous experience working with persons with disabilities
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities
• Current certification in Emergency First Aid (CSA Basic) and Level C CPR is required
• Successful completion of all training requirements (including High Five and WHMIS).
• Access to a reliable vehicle may be required for some positions.
• Screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Records Check.
Security Clearance Requirements : Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS : Casual/Seasonal - June 17th 2024 - to August 23rd, 2024
HOURS OF WORK : Up to 40 hours a week
SALARY : $17.20 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)
WORK LOCATION : Captain William Spry Community Centre, Chocolate Lake Community Centre, Horizon Community Centre.
