WSP E&I Canada Limited is currently recruiting for an
Intern/Co-Op Water Resources Engineering positionwithin our Water Resources Engineering Group, based in our Burlington, Ontario office.

The Burlington Water Resources Engineering group primarily support public-sector clients (Municipalities, Conservation Authorities, Transit) both in a lead and support role. We work on a diverse range of water resources and stormwater management projects from initial assessments through to detailed design. Hydrologic and hydraulic modelling are fundamental to these assessments, and our group uses a wide variety of tools and modelling platforms to complete the required work. Typical studies include Class Environmental Assessments and Stormwater Master Plans, floodplain mapping and flood risk assessments. Preliminary and detailed design work includes stormwater management (quantity, quality and erosion control, water balance\\budget) for various proposed development works, channel rehabilitation, stormwater management pond clean-outs and retrofits, and other related works.
Currently, the majority of staff are working primarily from home with one (1) day per week in the office due to COVID however the situation is continually evolving, and in-office time may increase in the future. Flexible hours can generally be accommodated. Specific work arrangements for the 2023 term are TBD.

Key Responsibilities: - Field work support, including site visits and inspections, velocity metering\\stream gauging, grab water quality sampling, and downloading equipment and gauges;
- Data and information review, summary and organization for engineers using GIS and other tools as required;
- Support for hydrologic and hydraulic modelling as required (including EPA-SWMM, PCSWMM, Visual OTTHYMO, HSP-F, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks ICM, and other programs).
- Assistance with technical writing, including technical memos and reports;
Qualifications: - 3rd or 4th year, working towards an Undergraduate Degree in Water Resources or Environmental Engineering;
- A valid Ontario driver's license and clean drivers abstract considered an asset;,
- First aid certification, and other certifications considered assets.
Role-Specific Skills: - Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs;
- Working knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic modelling principles;
- Possess a mixture of technical and practical knowledge and skills, with a rigorous problem-solving approach;
- A flexible approach to finding solutions to problems, by being curious in your approach, with the capacity to grow and develop;
- Confidence to ask questions, seek help, make decisions and challenge the traditional approach;
- Time management and organizational skills, managing workloads on multiple projects, budgets, competing objectives, and client expectations;
- Ability to work both as part of a team and independently;
- An inquisitive mind, that looks for connections and can apply common-sense logic to systems, to find problems and solutions;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor communications to technical and non-technical audiences; and,
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate across project teams, disciplines, and with clients and stakeholders.
Additional desirable qualifications include: - Specific experience with water resources and stormwater systems;
- Knowledge of stormwater management and design practices
- Knowledge of GIS based programs (ArcGIS TM , QGIS or other)
- Knowledge of AutoCAD TM
- Knowledge / experience with EPA-SWMM or other hydrologic / hydraulic software listed
