Internship Placement for Summer 2024 Term

Location: 20 McGloin Street, Fredericton NB / remote work possible
Number of placements: 1
Salary: $17.00/hour
Hours per week: 36.25
Placement Duration: May – August 2024
Department : Justice and Public Safety (JPS)
Placement Description : The student will work with the Head Office of the Community and Youth Justice Services Branch, primarily with the Diversion and Restorative Justice team. The student will be responsible for leading various research and consultation projects (listed below). This will include opportunities for engagement with frontline staff across the Branch, as well as with various partner agencies and community organizations. Extensive research and analysis, as well as communication and consultation skills, are required.
Qualifications:
- Language requirement: English or bilingual
- Pursuing a degree in Arts, Humanities or Social Sciences
- Interest or experience in the criminal justice system, Restorative Justice and/or conflict mediation
- Great communication skills (English mandatory, bilingual an asset)
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a team.
- Experience compiling and analyzing qualitative data.
- Experience with Microsoft applications (Teams, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Positive attitude and open to learning/challenging themselves with new opportunities.
Skills/Highlights :
- Work with wide-ranging Community and Youth Justice Services employees (Regional Directors, Probation Officer Supervisors, Diversion Coordinators) and partner agencies (RCMP Supervisors and Community Program Officers, Public Prosecution, and municipal police) to compile necessary regionalized information lists, such as community venues for RJ circles in each region, community service hour partnerships in each region, and more.
- Develop Safe Work Practice (SOP) for community-based Restorative Justice Facilitators, a crucial element of the provincial Restorative Justice Program.
- Conduct sweeping provincial scans and best practices reviews of relevant Restorative Justice-related items.
- Support general Diversion and RJ Team and Branch work, including administrative tasks, meeting minutes and follow-ups, preparation for events, and other tasks as needed.
