Are you passionate about Newfoundland and Labrador culture and history? This is a rare opportunity to lead a unique local enterprise, over a century old. NONIA (Newfoundland Outport Nursing and Industrial Association) is a not-for-profit social enterprise which makes handknits produced by its province-wide network of skilled knitters.

The Board of Directors of NONIA is seeking an experienced Business Manager to oversee all aspects of the business including human resources, product development and production, sales and marketing, finance and bookkeeping, governance and administration and building management.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in business management and human resource management. Experience in administrative and financial management. A University degree or similar in business management would be an asset. Other assets include: retail operational management experience, ability to multi task, good time management skills, and strong leadership and communication skills (both oral and written).

Candidate must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident with eligibility to work in Canada. Must provide a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.

1. Management of Product development, sales and purchasing

• Selection of products and quality control of finished goods
• Monitoring of costs of hand-knitted goods and other finished products
• Inventory control and tracking
• Online sales and communication
• Ordering of raw materials and research of product alternatives

2. Bookkeeping and Financial Management

• Daily & monthly postings to Sage software for all revenues & expenses
• Cash management & banking
• Accounts payable
• Monthly accounts reconciliation
• Regular filings (e.g. HST), yearend reports & audit support
• Preparation & management of periodic applications for funding

3. Governance and Human Resource Management

• Hiring and training of quality control and retail staff
• Management of staff team
• Maintenance of team of quality knitters through recruitment, remuneration, recognition and evaluation
• Scheduling and tracking of staff work schedules, leave requests and training
• Board of Directors management - preparation of reports and agendas for monthly Board meetings and any related committees
• Provision of support for special projects of the Board

4. Communications, Marketing and Innovation

• Development and maintenance of website
• Development of Social marketing strategy
• Response to public relations opportunities
• Networking with relevant organizations
• Provision of support for annual craft fair
• Troubleshooting and dealing with enquiries
• Analysis of present and future directions and opportunities for the business

5. Building and Office Administration

• Building maintenance and repair issues and addressing areas requiring improvements
• Day to day building operational issues, i.e. Ordering of office and facility supplies
• Equipment requirements and servicing
• Purchasing and receiving of goods

Salary and Benefits

Salary up to $50,000 per year reflects flexibility in work schedule and job responsibilities, e.g. bookkeeping
