Job purpose
The Corporate Quality Systems Manager is responsible for organizing and maintaining all aspects of the Food Safety and Quality Management Systems (FSQMS) at all locations by developing, reviewing, monitoring, verifying, and improving the various programs within this standard as required to ensure the manufacture of safe foods.
Duties and Responsibilities
The associate’s primary functions and responsibilities are as follows:
- Review, develop, and revise all programs under the BRC Global Standards for Food Safety, SFCR (CFIA) and FSMA (FDA) as required, including, but not limited to the following: Allergen Program, Supplier Approval Program, Environmental Monitoring, and Internal Audit Program; and additional certification programs (including but not limited to) Kosher certification, Organic Certification, Gluten Free, Non-GMO, Peanut-free, RSPO, etc.
- Oversight of the HACCP program at each plant location.
- Support all 3rd Party Audits
- Provide support to all FSQA Specialists to ensure FSQMS programs at each location are in place, up-to-date and validated.
- Work with and provide customers with necessary documentation - Kosher Certificates, Organic Certificates, BRC Certificates, etc.
- Organize, audit, and maintain all records required per the Internal Audit, Prerequisite Program, and Food Safety Program requirements.
- Actively participate in recurring cross functional meetings including leadership reviews, foreign material prevention meetings, project meetings, sanitation meetings, HACCP team meetings, product development meetings and others as required.
- Lead and/or support change management activities related to processes, programs and/or systems at the facility.
- Review all documents utilized to control manufacturing under FSQMS to ensure that only correct versions of documents and recording forms are in use.
- Devise, develop, and ensure the implantation of the SOPs required for our standards.
- Organize and initiate mock recall tests annually.
- Undertake training and coaching for all QA staff, as required, on the various food safety and quality standards and requirements.
- Review results of internal and external testing programs and act, in discussion with the Quality Director, as appropriate.
- Meet with other company stakeholders and managers to report non-conformances and seek resolution.
- Backup for QA Manager when required.
- May be required to work during off shifts to monitor processes and train employees, as necessary.
- Perform other assigned duties.
- Follow Health and Safety rules and regulations.
- Must follow G ood M anufacturing P ractices, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines.
- Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (Food Science) degree or Science related degree (e.g., chemistry, microbiology) with ideally a minimum of 7 years of experience in the food industry.
- Must have detailed experience and training in implementing and managing food safety systems in a manufacturing environment against at least one GFSI Benchmarked food safety standard (BRC preferred).
- Must have HACCP qualification (ideally advanced level).
- Must have internal auditing training.
- Must have experience leading 3rd party GFSI audits.
- Must have a working knowledge of Canadian food safety regulations including SFCA. (US regulatory knowledge including FSMA/FSVP, EU and UK regulations would be an asset).
- Must be competent in using standard computer software packages including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills. Experience in delivering training and public speaking.
- Strong oral and written communication.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
