Job Summary:

The Medical Devices Design Technologist is an experienced Journeyman Machinist or Tool and Die Maker, who reports to the Chief Design Technologist, Medical Devices. The position provides a range of mechanical technology services under the supervision of the Chief Design Technologist including but not limited to; use of computer aided design and manufacturing tools to design and develop devices, manufacturing custom clinical devices and equipment including some patient accessories; mechanical maintenance and repair on a range of diagnostic, treatment and associated equipment; quality management oversight; identify mechanical problems and propose remedial action plans on a range of diagnostic, treatment and associated equipment; replacement and upgrading of medical devices and equipment in other departments within CancerCare Manitoba as well as other customers on a contract basis.

Additional activities include identification of material requirements, department training requirements and may provide on the job training to apprentices.

This position also temporarily performs the duties and responsibilities of the Chief Design Technologist when the Senior and Chief Design Technologists are absent.

The ability to communicate with a range of clinical and technical people in a team-oriented environment is of critical importance. 

Qualifications:

Required

• Federal Department of Labour Red Seal or Manitoba Department of Labour Journeyman machinist status or equivalent is required.
• Graduation from a recognized technical college program is required.
• A minimum of four years of Journeyman Machinist experience is required.
• The knowledge and ability to operate all mechanical shop equipment and tools which includes but is not limited to lathes, milling machines, drill presses, shears, table and panel saws, is required.
• Fabrication experience is required.
• Experience programming CNC machines is required.
• Ability to communicate in English, reading, writing and orally is required.
• Satisfactory employment record
• Must be able to legally work in Canada  

Asset:

• A formal training program on at least one Computer Aided Design (CAD) program is an asset 

• Experience with 3D printing technology is an asset.
