We currently have an opening for a full-time permanent Paint Shop Technician, based in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada.
Reporting to the Paint Shop Lead Hand, the Paint Shop Technician will operate under minimal supervision, will be responsible for all aspects of the paint process including paint prepping and finishing. They will be required to perform any or all functions from preparation of the aircraft for painting processes up to and including the final painting and inspection of aircraft surfaces, aircraft parts, components, and manufactured products.
As a paint technician, a high caliber of technical ability, quality, productivity, and attention to safety is expected in this role.
In this role your duties will include the following:
- Remove paint, clean, chemically process and paint on aircraft surfaces, parts, components, assemblies, and manufactured products;
- Layout custom designs, decals and registration markings as required;
- Maintain tools and equipment used;
- Assist less experienced staff with learning new skills, procedures, and safety practices;
- Assist in creating a positive work environment by communicating Conair’s philosophy and objectives to less experienced staff or contractors;
- Complete tasks safely using appropriate protective equipment and measures including maintaining a safe work area. Ensure all measures are taken for a safe work environment;
- Perform all duties in accordance with Conair’s Policies and Procedures and applicable regulations;
- Maintain currency as applicable to Conair Memos, Maintenance Bulletins, and notices;
- Other related duties as required.
We are looking for someone who has :
- Knowledge of WHMIS requirements, hazards and safety practices relating to paint crew activities and supervisor responsibilities for team member health and safety;
- Advanced knowledge of paints, primers, paint removers and other chemicals and products pertaining to the trade;
- Understanding of aircraft parts and components and their compatibility with paint products and chemicals;
- Knowledge of and ability to use and maintain the tools and equipment required for the trade;
- Ability to interpret technical data and product manufacturer information;
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision;
- Ability to accurately layout and mask paint designs, lettering etc.;
- Ability to clearly communicate methods, procedures, standards, and quality requirements to employees with less skills and/or experience;
- A team player with the ability to deal with people in a polite and courteous manner;
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
Training/Education:
- Completion of grade 12 or equivalent;
- Formal training in aircraft refinishing (or equivalent training and experience);
- Minimum 5 years painting experience;
- Minimum 1 year aircraft refinishing experience;
- CCAA Painters Certification an asset;
- Fluent in English.
