Role Summary: The People & Culture
(P&C) Generalist reports into the Director, P&C and champions and
promotes Chewter’s mission, vision, values, and goals and strategic initiatives.
This role is also responsible for full cycle talent acquisition for all
unionized and non-unionized positions in addition to providing administrative
human resources support to the department managers and the P&C function,
while assuring compliance with all applicable federal and provincial
regulations, as well as internal policies.
Key Accountability
Talent Management. Percentage of Time - 20
- Full-cycle recruitment: Collaborate with hiring managers to plan, develop and implement the recruitment strategy for vacant positions including job profiles, interviewing candidates, conducting reference checks, and preparing and presenting offer letters.
- Full ownership of the onboarding and orientation program for all new employees including working with hiring managers to establish probation and goal setting, benefits enrollment and orientation, processing and following up on all new hire documents, mobilizing H&S and IT requirements, etc.
- Create, develop, and maintain job descriptions for all positions within Chewters; ensure contents are specific and measurable and tie into performance management program
Employee Relations Percentage of Time - 20
- Main contact for all employee relations inquiries, concerns, and conflict resolution
- Assists in the investigation/grievance process
- Provides guidance on union collective agreement articles, P&C policies and procedures
- Case manages short-term and long-term leaves of absences, including requests for follow-up documentation (i.e., medical) and coordinates return-to-work plans in collaboration with the department manager.
Total Rewards Percentage of Time - 15
- Acting as liaison between team members and our payroll team.
- Administer employee benefits program
- Assist employees with benefits-related inquires and ensure compliance with regulations
Talent Development Percentage of Time - 15
- Participate in the development of skills training.
- Administer our internal PKS – Pay for Knowledge & Skills program for union members.
- Facilitate training sessions and workshops for various P&C related topics.
- Assists in the annual performance review process; ensure consistent use to drive accountability and elevate talent; ensure individual pay actions are sent for processing to Payroll.
Data Management and Reporting Percentage of Time - 30
- Maintain accurate P&C records and generate reports as needed.
- Track union member hours in accordance to the collective agreement.
- Utilize internal tools and resources to track information and support data-driven decision making.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of proven HR experience, preferably in manufacturing / unionized environments.
- Degree or Diploma in Human Resource Management or equivalent education.
- CPHR or in the process of working towards your CPHR.
- Strong knowledge of the applicable employment laws and regulations
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and related business and communication tools.
- Strong team player with experience in a collaborative environment.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to problem solve through critical thinking and self-education.
